basic premise, theres a library somewhere that wants to gather all literature from the universe, like a copy of every book, in alternate realities as well, using them as comparisons to see how much divergence has occurred etc.
naturally some books are hard to get copies of, so send forth the librarians.
Not great so far, if this is the standard I can't see me going back for any more by Genevieve Cogman

Maybe i'm wrong, but i have this general sense that any time the key characters in a fantasy story are commando librarians, the story will fail to impress.
Wait, aren't YOU a commando librarian though?
No, he's a librarian who goes commando. Big difference.

Very doable, though you might want to line up some lighter fare to break it up some. She's great, one of the best in the biz, but she's never been one for comic relief.
I've heard that she puts you through the emotional grinder. Right now my plan is to alternate 2 Hobb 1 other.

That's for sure, but more than that, what I mean is her characters just aren't particularly cheery people. A few are acerbic but that's about as light as it gets tonally. Nevertheless, 2:1 sounds like a good pace.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Fuzzy Nation was a fuzzing fun, little read. If you're ever looking for a well-written, tightly plotted palate cleanser, read this.

After TWOK was 900 pages of bloat and 150 of actual story progression, I'm astonished that people didn't expect more bloat to be frank.
Well book 2 didn't have much bloat. It was long but there was always some plot developing in interesting ways.
I honestly think book 3 is on par with 1 when it comes to bloat, and I'm surprised so many people liked the first book and hated the third. But I really like both books and am okay with some bloat. I prefer Oathbringer to TWoK, though WoR is the clear best in the series.
You literally couldn't pay me to read 2 or 3 after 1. WoK is still the absolute bottom of my 'have read' list in terms of score (2/10). I heard a lot of tell that book 2 was just Whingydin whinging and then powering up but still being a whiny wanker. No thanks. Just... no.
Anyway, Eddings' banter is why high Knightbro stuff works, even if there is a case of plated plot armour around the knights.

Invisible library is not a long book.
But I'm still not even half way through. I can't get motivated to read it, it's just....crap

On the brighter side of reading, THE WARMASTER is fantastic so far! Gaunt's Ghosts WH40k, Abnett-erific stuff!
I'm only on page 100 and there have already been like 3 "holy shit" moments!
Also, the cover showcases Gaunt's Augmetic eyes, which I always had trouble picturing....since Shoggy's were always "goggle-like"...and I didn't expect Gaunt's were the same as that...so here (spoilered for size):

Hah! Though the Mallorean is more proto-Knightbro. Sparkhawk And Friends is where the Knightbro really came into being. Just knights out on a quest, bein' bros, doin' bro stuff, brainin' them bad dudes.

Mandorallen was awesome, among other reasons, because he spoke like this when every other character spoke 'normal'. The contrast was funny, and when he broke from it, hysterical. More to the point, Eddings gave most characters or nations distinct speech patterns that were amazingly consistent throughout the books and one of the reasons why the characters are so vivid.
Sparhawk and Friends was all around disappointing. Mediocre first trilo, astoundingly bad second one.

this is not new abyss.
I have hated Silk for a very long time, he is an irritating douche nozzle from douche town
And eddings retardo culture clash is as bad as Jordans.
Countries that occupy the same land mass and share border rarely have such massively divergent characteristics, especially in the proto historical european situation both authors seemed to love wallowing in.

Gotcha, I do love the idea of Sparhawk and Friends. Would have made a great 80s cartoon.

lalalalala you are dead and thus I cannot hear you lalalalalalalala...
But... when is Silk actually douchey? Name one incident.
He spends the entire ten books pretty much keeping everyone else from ending up lost, broke and/or dead. Sure, he's smug, but never rude or malicious except to the odd baddie. As loveable rogue archetypes go he's practically saint-like.
The complete answer to your issue with the countries is 'it's a fantasy book, duh'. More specifically, it's flat out a massive plot point and world-building element in the Belgariad / Mallorean that specific gods took on specific peoples and made them what they were, so your silly little logic and reasoning and geography go right out the window. FFS, it's even explained that the four very different Alorn nations were different tribes one god pulled together into a nation, and Torak took over an entire continent and a half of various tribes and both gods told the various tribes where they wanted them to live. It`s not complex, hell, it verges on trite, but `that`s not how it happened in reality` is hardly a valid critique.
Unless you`re critiquing Althalus, because that book was shite.
