On to OATHBRINGER.

I feel for you, no one really should have to suffer through it.

Currently going through the Tyrant's Throne and while I still think the author is a bit of a one trick pony where the only thing that advances the plot is misery and torture, for which he seems to have an unhealty fascination. The Tyrant's Throne so far seems the best of the series so far while I found Knight's Shadow and Saint's Blood a bit too depressing to be really enjoyable.

I finished Hamilton's Fallen Dragon yesterday. Looks I've got Scalzi's Fuzzy Nation to read on the train home.

I'm starting Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb. I have several friends that swear by her works and I plan to make her main universe books my primary focus this year.

Very doable, though you might want to line up some lighter fare to break it up some. She's great, one of the best in the biz, but she's never been one for comic relief.

im only 1/4 way in.

basic premise, theres a library somewhere that wants to gather all literature from the universe, like a copy of every book, in alternate realities as well, using them as comparisons to see how much divergence has occurred etc.
naturally some books are hard to get copies of, so send forth the librarians.
Not great so far, if this is the standard I can't see me going back for any more by Genevieve Cogman

After TWOK was 900 pages of bloat and 150 of actual story progression, I'm astonished that people didn't expect more bloat to be frank.

Well book 2 didn't have much bloat. It was long but there was always some plot developing in interesting ways.

I honestly think book 3 is on par with 1 when it comes to bloat, and I'm surprised so many people liked the first book and hated the third. But I really like both books and am okay with some bloat. I prefer Oathbringer to TWoK, though WoR is the clear best in the series.

I finished TIGANA and loved it. Now I'm trying to hustle through Joe Abercrombie's Sharp Ends. In eBooks I finished Daniel Potter's Off Leash and started Josiah Bancroft's Senlin Ascends. It's delightfully readable, but different from a lot of what I typically read.

I got Deadhouse Landing and Blackwing for myself, too:
Author of Purge of Ashes.
Sayer of "And Nature shall not abide."

Yeah, that's not a condescending POV on subjectivity or anything.

Maybe i'm wrong, but i have this general sense that any time the key characters in a fantasy story are commando librarians, the story will fail to impress.

Reading BoneHunters now and loving it. Oathbringer is just a boring ass book till part 5.

I enjoyed WoK and WoR, so i really need to make up my own mind about it before i have the nanites reprogram everyone who disagrees with me.

Oh c'mon Mac, this is subjective as hell.
I agree with aces... Eddings' dialogue is glorious fun.
(Qualifier: in my head ALTHALUS and everything after that book do not exist)

No. I'm a commando meatatarian.

To be clear, I'm not sating commando librarians are a bad concept, just that every sf/f book i see about them seems to be weak.
