It's on my Christmas list. Glad to hear it's more of the goods!

I finished "Annihilation" while I was waiting in the fracture clinic.
Getting bogged down in "Authority" a little bit. Mostly because I spent entire weekend gaming till sunrise, but 5 chapters in and Control does seems a bit bland after Biologist.

Stick with it....things get suitably fucking weird. It actually helps how "bland" Control is.
You'll see.

That scene in that attic. It was so incredibly creepy I had to put the book down for a while.

I finished Mignola's B.P.R.D. - 1946-1948 Omnibus, and it is stunning from start to finish. I mean I don't think I could have asked for a better set of woven stories and characters for the opening few years of the Bureau. Slowly gathering all the Mignolaverse to my shelf, this volume probably gets me about halfway there. More concentrated thoughts in Comics thread.

I finally finished Miles Cameron's The Red Knight. I enjoyed it (4/5). It took a while to read. Due to the size and that I wasn't inspired enough to read at home, so this was all lunch break reading. I'll get book 2, but not for a while. My digital TBR pile is pretty sizable and the latest Uhtred book was released here in the states. Maybe after the holidays.
For now, I'm reading 18 Wheels of Horror.

I'm already 700 pages into Towers of Midnight (in the ~1250 paperback). I dunno if this book is better than average for the series or I just have the rush of being almost done, but it's got me pretty hooked.

Towers of Midnight is solid. Major props to Sanderson for making Perrin badass again.

Finished re-read of "Corvus". Probably would've done this last week, but no commute on Friday.
In terms of technical skill, I have no complaints. It's well-written, well-paced, with solid battle scenes.
But it still feels like a totally unnecessary sequel. It's a personal failing, but I just can't agree with the "glorious chosen one unites bickering cities/tribes into a nation and forges an empire at the expense of neighbours" narrative. It never resonated with me, so, much like in Prince of Nothing, I find myself spending all my time cheering for the prodigy would-be conqueror to fail.
Also the variation from the "would-be Alexander" theme by introducing "the twist" really doesn't work for me.
Basically, the plot and themes is a 2, everything else is a 5.
Gonna start "Kings of morning" tomorrow.

The orgies don't hurt, that's for sure. But I've never not liked Perrin and I've never liked Mat much, so that's not it. Maybe I just don't want this series following me into 2017.

Reading Altered Carbon. It started out as a pretty typical detective story and I wasn't too interested, and then all of a sudden it became Caine-like. I like that.

Started Julian Fellowes BELGRAVIA (which is about a family of merchants and how they interact with the nobility at a party in 1815, the night before Waterloo). It's quite good. Very much in vein with Fellowes TV writing work (DOWNTON ABBEY). If you liked that, you'll like this.

Finally finally finally finished Ketty Jay 3 IRON JACKAL. Great book, solid series so far. Terrific characters, solid if simple plot, and Wooding really nails the action with this one... three amazing, cinematic, sequences and then a holy fuck of a finale.
Next up Warren Ellis' NORMAL. Psyched, new Ellis is always a treat.
In earbook, started Gaiman's ANANSI BOYS. About 15% in and its ok, but I fear it will be predictable. I have MISTBORN 4 and 5 standing by so it won't take much for me to move along.
In dead tree, got the last third of the FABLES comics series standing by (everything after Supergroup). Looking fwd to it.

It's been a long while, admittedly, but I don't think Anansi Boys can be described as predictable.
