I'll definitely give them a shot. I don't like completely writing off a genre. I'll watch to get a good deal on them in digital format.

Finish the Library at Mount Char. Very unique book and definitely worth a read. Really glad I picked it back up. Now I'm going to listen to Nightwise by R.S. Belcher. Also bought the new Christopher Moore book and the new China Mieville, Three Moments of an Explosion, so I'll be giving those a go.

On vacation, I've been rereading Borges' Ficciones, as well as starting in on Scalzi's The Android's Dream. I found the latter at the library for $0.25 and couldn't not pick it up; three chapters in and is a lot more amusing than I thought it'd be.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Maybe the bugs just remind you so much of home.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Wow in 2 days time I've already read 100+ pgs Apt 9 vs my slow as fuck plod through Rome. Last time I made that many pgs was on Rome 2 or 3. What's even more important is that I've been reading this much during Destiny Iron Banner week which always consumes my time over reading. So basically this means I'm really enjoying my return to the bug infested Apt series.

Ando...get this ASAP

I actually looked this up the other day. I read the first two books from the library a few years back, then I stopped because... I don't remember exactly. Anyway they seem to have the entire series, so ok, its on my TBR now

It certainly takes awhile for some to fully get into it cause it really just strange Fantasy. I mean its people taking on the power of insects... He truly creates a fantastic world and once your used to the idea of bug powers you start to crave seeing what he brings out in the Kinden next. A lot of people give up on bk 2 for some reason. I devoured bks 1-5 in about 3 months I think. Then I had to wait for them to be released. This series look wise pisses me off so bad though as halfway through a dif style cover was issued not to mention the sizes of the new books change. Some are PB size some are HC size ugh

My brother is now telling me that he gave up midway due to "Weird stuff happening" and he hated the main protagonist.

I had similar issues, but went back and really liked a couple of the middle books. I just slogged my way through Heirs to the Blade. Despite featuring 2 of the characters I don't really like, it was an OK book. I'm in a bit of a dilemma now, The Air War and War Master's Gate aren't available in the Kindle store. I'd rather now have books 8 & 9 as a physical copy and the rest in ebook. I may wait a while before continuing the series.

Book 1 was interesting, book 2 a bit of a bore, book 3 is GREAT, book 4 is also a bit of a bore for parts and great in parts...that's as far as I have gotten. It's decent, but I barely connect with any of the characters. Like super barely...almost in cardboard cutout area. I'll keep reading as people whose opinion I trust (like BK) have said it gets better from Book 4 onwards.

First three volumes of New52 AQUAMAN (Geoff Johns & Ivan Reis) down and it's probably the most interesting DC comic character origin in the entire line. A part of me is sad I didn't read it when it first came out, but a part of me is happy that I get to devour it in digital form one after the other (there are 6 volumes).

I don't think Aquaman has EVER been this good.

Also, why did it take me this long to realize that Aquaman, the rightful king of Atlantis is a King Arthur?

Anyways, if the movie version of Aquaman follows John's origin story that he's crafted here (which odds are it will), then we are in for a serious treat. WELL, WELL worth your time.

Finished An Empire Unacquainted with Defeat by Glen Cook, a collection of short stories in his Dread Empire series. I typically don't like short stories, but leave it to Glen Cook to change that as these were great - a few were incredible. Prior to one or two stories he mentions Fritz Lieber, he stayed with him and they wrote together at some point. I've heard of him, but never read any of his work, I added him to my TBR pile.

Halfway into Nightwise by R.S. Belcher (author of Six-Gun Tarot); this is the American version of Mathew Swift but much darker. I definitely recommend this one to Abyss, QT, and most other forumites. Damn good stuff.

I'd suggest reading Lieber's Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser stories. They are spectacular - Lankhmar is my favorite fantasy city by far (Erikson's Darujhistan a similar, possibly emulative setting). There's a Masterworks omnibus of them on Amazon.

I've just finished Weeks' The Broken Eye. This series, like Kip, has grown a lot over the past three books. While they're both still a bit idiotic at times, they're overall pretty intelligent and fun. And the twists at the end have me excited for book four. I will add that, while not up to Erikson's level, Weeks' stabs at philosophizing had me thinking about some religious things from new perspectives.

Seconded completely. Any fantasy fan does themselves a disservice if they haven't read these stories.
Finished Ryan's BLOOD SONG. I agree with others... Satisfying. At times great, other times just good, but overall a solid book. Will read 2 and 3 soon and yes, I've been warned.
Up next, Meluch's TOUR OF THE MERRIMACK : THE TWICE AND FUTURE CESAR. Bring on the bugs!!!!!

In my wait till Friday's release of the new Star Wars book, I've started Thomas Asbridge's THE CRUSADES, a non-fic book which so far is pretty good.

Let me know the timeline of it. I won't read it but am curious about it when it takes place.

It seems to imply it's quite recent after the Battle of Endor. Long enough for the Rebellion to have established a foothold as a New Republic, but not long enough for the remainder of the Imperial forces to be wiped out completely. The protagonist is Wedge, so that should be good.

Will let you know how it is.

Finished Nightwise. Gotta say that this may be my number 2 urban fantasy series behind Swift and tied with Bobby Dollar. Anyone looking for a new urban fantasy series and likes them a bit dark should check this out.

Now I'm 30 min. into Three Moments of an Explosion and Mieville has fucking glaciers hovering over London. Looking to be good.
