THKT is a good setup for Blackveil, and I can see a lot of plotlines forming for book four.

Started Blood Song, and I don't think I've ever read a book with so many comma splices. I suppose it does give the prose a more conversational feel, but it can be distracting. Hopefully I can get used to it because the book does seem to have some promise.

A little too much Rothfuss, not enough Erikson at times for my taste, but a solid fantasy read.

A little too much Rothfuss, not enough Erikson at times for my taste, but a solid fantasy read.

I would argue that the last third of the first book is more Erikson than Rothfuss...as least for mindfuckery badass-ness.

Besides you should be used to this by now. After all you lived through waiting for both the WoT and the MBotF books to come out. It must seem pretty routine by now. I am the one who is doing this for the first time

We never really had to wait all that long for a new Malazan book, to be fair. The longest gap was two years between MT and tBh, and there was never any uncertainty about whether it was on its way.

I picked up the series the year TBH was out in mmpb. And then we started getting ICE fixes, too.

Malaz did not lead to withdrawals, since you could've always just re-read MoI or MT or TBH and find new tidbits you've missed earlier.

Listening to the Library at Mount Char. I kinda fizzled on this a month ago then started back two days ago. Now, about 3/4 through, I gotta say this is really good. It kinda reminds me of American Elsewhere (though they're really nothing alike). It's different and that's usually a good thing with me. Anyway, recommending this one.

Finished Blood Song last night. Nothing amazing, but a very quality book. And QT is right, the last 1/3 is the best part of the book.

Read through Singularity Sky and Iron Sunrise by Stross and found them ejoyable but nothing out of the ordinary, possibly because I don't really see some of the 21st century concepts/behavior used surviving the kind of technology that is readily available in the series.

Currently going through Off Armageddon Reef by David Weber and really enjoying it even if it is basically some form of alternative military history in a SF setting so far. Weber making the setting the result of some kind of american, anti-scientist, religious, megalomaniacs version of an ideal society make for some fun minor details early on.

I gave up on Hondo again. I've come to the conclusion that westerns just aren't for me.

I finished Tarkin though, holy crap that got fun about halfway through. I'm really wanting to watch both The Clone Wars and Rebels series now.

Try Lonesome Dove for Westerns. It and Blood Meridian are the best ones ever written and Blood Meridian is a great deal more dour.

Hondo appeals to a certain nostalgia despite being kinda terrible. Louis l'amour was never a good writer, but he had a huge audience that probably overlaps with the audience that thinks Shane was a good movie.

L'Amour was also kinda a product of his time in regards to attitudes and representation of people.
