Yeah that was great haha it gave me a chuckle. I also really like how they only hint at the wider way. Like everything the company does is successful to one degree or another, but they're always retreating.

Didn't know it was out yet as the Audiobook didn't release until december might have to go out get a physical copy.

Finished! The ending felt a little abrupt and maybe I missed something but I didn't quite get what was happening with Raven and Darling at the end there.

I enjoyed it though I kept thinking just how many soldiers does the rebel have? The world didn't feel full exactly and yet the armies seemed like tens of thousands strong.

Now the question is, is it worth continuing? I have the omnibus with Shadows Linger and White Rose in it. Do they follow Croaker? I like him as a narrative voice, and I like that while most of the action is war, he focuses more on the incidental details around the battles rather than the battles themselves.

Definitely worth continuing. It seems like "no duh" to say that the effect of this series is cumulative, cuz when is it not in any long series, but there's something unique about this one. It's like the heart of the story, or maybe that's Croaker's heart, is buried deep and you're the one who has to dig it up as you read. But it gets easier as you go.

Fair warning the second book first follows a different character for a while as the plot builds up, before Croaker gets involved. Just so you know.

I always struggled with the getting numbers of The Rebel square in my head, its just such a bizarre and disconcerted war.

I've read the early books too many times, or I would jump in late for the reread.

I vote that it is worth reading on through the first anthology. Just skip the Silver Spike if you get that far.

I picked up Lies Weeping, but am struggling with it. I really dislike the voice he has given the narrators.

It has been a long time since I read the Dread Empire books, so if someone wants to do a reread/read through through of those afterwards I would be in for that.
