Just Finished bk 3.... so ch 13-end.

Solid ending. Evans managed yet again to tie everything together nicely and without being predictable even where the story beats weren't wildly original. The characte work really does carry the story. The worldbuilding is imaginative and fun even when not wildly original, but the characters' actions and interactions make it work. Siyon's story remains strong right through, his steady acquisition of power and experience and determination and how he just wants to be reunited w his love but absolutely will not abandon 'his' city... and it's easy to lose track of why he feels so strongly about a city whose establishment repeatedly fucks with him except that the author steadily brings back friends, allies, and people who genuinedly feel the same way. Anahid's

All in all a fun trilogy, i enjoyed it, it held my interest, and i would cheerfully try something else by this author. Tnx for the suggestion PG this was worth the time and money.

Glad you enjoyed it. Amused by how you were initially sceptical of Anahid but her plot turned out to be the most inventive.

Haven't plowed through Eli Monpress yet but I've got a couple weeks off now so I imagine I will.

The shift in my enjoyment from Zagiri's to Anahid's storyline was one of my biggest surprises in the read. It's not that either was ever 'bad', but Anahid's storyline grew and Zagiri's - despite some fun moments - just didn't.

I hope you enjoy, the series very much grows along the way so you've got some good reading ahead if you get to it.
