This maybe the best cover art for the TOR Versions. It hasn't been confirmed yet, but yeah. Crawling Chaos found the link;)

In my opinion the best one we have from all of the TOR covers. Albeit it deviates from the story a bit too much lol. But I really like this cover. Oh and btw turns out this artist also did the Memories of Ice cover.
Is it just me or does Trull look like a red indian...lol

Edit: Check out post #14 for info straight from the artist

Mod Edit: I've removed the pic for now, I'd rather have the artists' permission before posting it. I sent him an e-mail already asking for permission. Follow the link for now.

Yeh I quite like it actually.

But I do still like the UK one just a little bit better. Almost mainly because of drawing of Karsa.

Though Considering how the UK one along with DG are damn good cover arts really, it was going to be a bit hard to beat if one wanted something better.

It's a nice picture.... though why karsa would be by a statue of seven dogs mauling a man I don't know...

I like the UK HoC cover more, but its certainly the best attempt at a cover by Tor yet, definitly better than the travesties which were the GotM and DhG covers...

Karsa? why does everyone think it's Karsa?? am I missing something here :Erm:
I always throught the two on the UK cover were Trull and Onrack.. and this second one showing a similar scene..
except Trull is now red instead of grey and Onrack looks very broken indeed :)

Hence I said Trull...lol. Don't see it being Karsa either, that would be taking the book totally out of context lol
But this cover would actually make me atleast pick the book up if I saw it in a book store, unlike the GotM one and the discarded DG.

I like this the best of the US covers so far, but then, the competition hasn't been much....

At least this doesn't look like the standard semi-embarrassing generic fantasy cover that 'graced' GotM and the first attempt at DG.

BTW, I saw the US cover as showing Karsa, mostly because he's got hair :)

I'm still going to be upset if we don't see this in hardcover...

I think it is Karsa - he looks like he's praying to his gods, and isn't he supposed to hold a blood-oil-covered sword? I know it is out of context, but since when do book covers represent what actually happens in the book?

If it is indeed Karsa - I would speculate that the sword depicted in the cover art is his new kick butt "Ginsoo" knife that he makes out of flint.

The fact that he has a large blood red sword and seems to fit the generic barbarian image makes me think its meant to be Karsa...

It can't be trull as a) he has hair and :) he isn't grey

Utterly non-story, but cool, especially because i had to look twice to find the seventh hound.

- Abyss, still prefers to UK cover, even so.

The UK cover is much better, IMO.

Straight from Todd Lockwood the artist:

Hi, Utkarsh! Thanks for writing, and thanks for your kind words.
That's Karsa Oorlong, in the opening scene in which he prays to the gods in the cliff-face.
The cliff face is hardly described in that scene, so I took it upon myself to give it some interest by imagining a reason for there to be war dogs carved on a cliff from times long gone. I entered this series late, and had no opportunity to read the previous books, so if there is a disconnect in the continuity of that cliff face, blame me or blame the editors whose job was to fill me in. But insofar as the descriptions in the opening chapter go, the scene is not inaccurate, just expanded visually. If they are described in greater detail later... well, oops. I honestly cannot read all of every book I illustrate, or I'd have no time to paint! Especially when deadlines are short.

And I've receieved the proper permssions to host the picture, I'll put it again some time today.

doesnt matter to me, its still a wicked pic and would definetly get me to pick up the book

threads mereged.

Disappointing they ruined the colours in the final print...unless ofcourse this an Amazon thing or something...as the MoI colours are consistent to the actual painting.

Hopefully Amazon just got a bad image or something.

I like the UK one a little better I think, but this one is in no way bad. Unlike the US cover for Gardens. IMO of course.

I prefer the UK version just cos it has relevance to the story. I remember on a reread of GoTM i just went ''when does rake fire lightning and how come pale is like a castle''. This would confuse me. but it still looks good
