Excellent article. It's behind the paywall, and I copy/pasted it to the spoiler tags below, but I do recommend NYT's $1/week for 6 months full access (and then when they raise the price, you can cancel because the price is too high, and they'll give you $1/week again as an option to continue.)

Couple of key bits of info:
  • Twelve Months comes out in January, covers an entire year of time, and is the first novel NOT in the original series outline.
  • He's still working from that 20-book outline, which his editor has never seen, and only one other person knows how the series will end.
  • Ghost Story was the first book he didn't plan out with a chapter-by-chapter outline.
  • Battling depression, he attempted suicide by pills when the Book 13 deadline was looming (!)
  • He's in (very early but serious) talks to start a new TV show based on three of the books.

Spoiler

"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Boo, burying it in the spoiler thread of a book I haven't gotten to yet! I guess I'll leave this thread up for folks in a similar position. :)

I'm mostly teasing you. It's good to have it in its own thread as the day of release gets closer. All good.

Thanks - I probably should have started a new thread in fairness! :)
