Black Gate has an interview with Glen Cook where he reveals he's already written three new BC books and is working on a fourth. He just needs someone interested in publishing them.

Quote

For several years now I have been working on A Pitiless Rain – or, The Orphan's Tale. It's a family Saga thing mainly revolving around the next generation kids from Glittering Stone, especially Soldiers Live. I have completed the first three volumes: Lies Weeping, They Cry, & Summer Grass. (I am) Halfway through Darkness Knows. My agent has had the first book for some time but I haven't heard anything yet. I will probably be writing on the day that I die. Seems to trump everything else, most days.

He's also got another Garret PI novel written (and unsold) and the plot for a second thought out.

I'm surprised he can't find a publisher! Hopefully the books are better than Port of Shadows...

I kind of don't fully believe this.

Anyone else read "Soldiers Live" and immediately just continue with "and wonder why"?

I haven't read Port of Shadows. Is its quality of at least the lowest original BC books? I'm talking through the Glittering Plains for quality comparison.

This is great news. I was wondering what happened to him. I read that he retired, good to hear it's not true. He should crowd fund them. Or self publish on Amazon.

Same on "Soldiers Live.." !!

Port of Shadows is really confusing. Seems to involve time travel shenanigans of some sort. I bought it when it came out in 2018 and just remember being confused. I have listened to the Audible version of the main series multiple times since then, but haven't re-read/listened to Port of Shadows.
I liked all the books, so I'm not sure about your quality comparisons, but I hope the above helps.

It's...much worse. I loved the Glittering Stone books, so to go from them to Port of Shadows (which is not a sequel, but instead an interlude between earlier books in the series) was rough.

I realize its set around the time of Shadows Linger, I think? How they end up in that location?

And, time travel might actually be interesting if done at all well.

I read them all a long, long time ago. Only ones I've ever re-read are the original trilogy. Is it on the level with The Iron Spike or one of the middle books? Glittering Plain was awesome because of how weird it went.

I loved the weird. Port of Shadows was a disappointing book because it didn't bring much in a new way to an already skipped over in main continuity story.

Cook has said a bunch of things about his writing over the decades and I'm at a point where I would love to read these books, yet I don't fully believe that they exist.

Port of Shadows was awful.

New BC titles sound interesting. The fact that his agent hasn't been able to find a publisher could mean that they're about as good as PoS.

Still would read at least the first one!

I liked PoS, not as much as some of the others, but I would need to do a reread to see how they stack up. I've only reread the first book.

The PoS reviews on Amazon and Goodreads are good. Amazon, 4.4/5 748 ratings. Goodreads 3.9/5 1,978 ratings.

Am I the only one that has zero faith in Amazon or Goodreads ratings? IMHO, the vast majority of people have shit for taste.

I rely on people who I know have good taste (like this Forum in general).

Imo, PoS wasn't terrible at the time I was reading it but it's proven to be utterly forgettable which is kinda damning in it's own way. I know I read it because I can look up what dates I read it on goodreads, but I remember pretty much next to nothing about it.

Agreed. On Amazon, at least, I like to use the 1-star reviews to help decide if I'll enjoy a book. Complaints about "too many big words" or "wokeness" I'll usually take as good signs.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

There's no cover yet, but Tor has unveiled the blurb for Glen Cook's Lies Weeping, first volume in a new Black Company story arc:

From the godfather of Grimdark himself, LIES WEEPING is the first book in a brand new arc of Glen Cook's groundbreaking Chronicles of the Black Company series!

The Black Company has retreated across the plain of glittering stone, toward a shadow gate that would let them trade the dangers of the plain for the questionable safety of the Company’s one-time haven on Hsien, a region in the world known as the Land of Unknown Shadows.

In Hsien, the company returns to their former base, An Abode of Ravens, where the Lady ages backwards in a return to force, shaking off the thrall, one breath at a time. Meanwhile, Croaker, ascended to godlike status as the Steadfast Guardian, has been left behind in the Nameless Fortress.

In their adopted father’s stead, Arkana and Shukrat have taken up the role of annalist for the Black Company. At first, life in Hsien appears quiet, even boring, but it is quickly apparent that strange goings on are more than what they seem, and it's up to them to discover the truth hidden in the shadows of this strange land.

Here's hoping the new books are better than PORT OF SHADOWS. I have hope because they won't be constrained by the established timeline in the same way.

I am floored by a true new Black Company coming out. I will pre order this because it's actually in existence. Wow.

I'm also preparing for a truly odd read, which I think will suit me well for Cook's tendency to zag when one expects a zig etc.
