Quote

The Two Towers is the second part of J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic adventure The Lord of the Rings.

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

Frodo and his Companions of the Ring have been beset by danger during their quest to prevent the Ruling Ring from falling into the hands of the Dark Lord by destroying it in the Cracks of Doom. They have lost the wizard, Gandalf, in a battle in the Mines of Moria. And Boromir, seduced by the power of the Ring, tried to seize it by force. While Frodo and Sam made their escape, the rest of the company was attacked by Orcs. Now they continue the journey alone down the great River Anduin—alone, that is, save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go.

While we wait for the second pick for this round of Book Club, we will continue our read of the Lord of the Rings, following The Fellowship of the Ring by the JRR Tolkien

To make participation more inclusive and easier to follow along, we're doing quarterly reads and picking two distinctly different books. Meaning for the members with busy lives and slow reading progress, it'll be easier to finish and you can chose whether you want to read both books or stick to one - or quit while you can.

1st rule of Book Club: You are allowed to talk about Book Club.

2nd rule of Book Club: You are allowed to talk about Book Club even if you're not participating in Book Club.

3rd rule of Book Club: Spoilers are to be put in a black box and labelled properly with a chapter number and if you like to be precise, a page number. Overall thoughts and feelings are fine and don't need to be spoilered, use discretion.

4th rule of Book Club: We'll make it up as we go along

I liked the part where Legolas surfed down the stairs while shooting arrows at Orcs.

I'm loving the blue novel cover you've posted the there it holds the androgynous and bisexual feel of an 80s synth pop music video.

They have such perfect coiffed and conditioned hair... And I feel that Legolas is telling Gimli that he's finally ready to love again.

If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Amazon bought the rights to that one piece of cover art and developed a 5 season show around it.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Finished last week.

Totally forgot how short the battle for helms deep is in the book.
But feels when Sean Bean kicks it.

I don't know why but gorbag really stuck out this time. It's the only time you're shown or s as anything other than warmongering hate fiends, it's almost discordant, but a great little sequence that shows the power and fear Sauron exerts over his own forces.

None of this is a slog, even the marshes and walking with Sam and Frodo is just a joy to reread
