Okay, so this was a part of MoI that scared me.

Lanas Tog and Envy are having a talk about where Lanas Tog came from:

"I am the last of the Kerluhm. The Ifalye, who heeded our first summons are all but destroyed. Those few that remain cannot extricate themselves from the conflict. I myself did nit expect to survive the attempt. Yet I have.
"A horrific conflict indeed," Lady Envy quietly observed. "Where does it occur?"
"The continent of Assail. Our losses: twenty-nine thousand eight hundred and fourteen Kerluhm. Twenty two thousand two hundred Ifalye. Eight months of battle. We have lost this war."

and we find out it is humans who are doing that damage......I SO wouldn't want to meet the humans who can slaughter Imass like that. Cause they ARE ritual Imass right?

I'd like to guess you guys have talked about this, but it really was a moment where I read it, continued on, and stumbled and went back and stared wide-eyed at the page......wow.

i dont think its so much that the humans are particularly special, but more that they are simply human, meaning they are able to change and adapt easily. for example, look at the malazan empire. kellanveds wisdom and dassems style of command created a powerful powerful army, and the moranth munitions gave them a new level of ability.

id definetly want to see the kinds of tactics employed by the humans on assail

yeah lots of conjecture as to the actual fighting force being used to decimate our favourite walking skeletons.... my personal tip is either a long forgotten race of toblakai or an army of forkrul assail *drools at the thought*

doubtful its forkrul: otherwise lanas would have said forkrul, besides why would a peace keeper want to work with a human tyrant, and how do you suppose a race of toblakai can kill an army of imass?

i mean they are all physical, only way to beat imass is with magic ...

The two swords impaling Lanas are our only clues so far. Black iron, IIRC, with sorcery playing along the blades. Were they sized for human use? I can't remember.

Either the sorcery prevented that or she just wasn't bothered. Maybe she liked how the matched her tattered armour?

they were human sized, otherwise she would have to pull it out, she wouldn;t be able to move were it toblakai sized swords...

also i don;t think she can pull it out.. the sorcery on the sword, don;t allow her to shift into dust form...

That's what I thought, but you can never tell with T'lan Imass.
Useful sorcery if you're fighting them, though. If they can't turn to dust they're just hard to kill. A mere inconvenience.

what kind of socery would prevent an imass returning to dust though? cant be jaghut or they surley would have used it in the past, doesnt really fit with KC as thats gravity/mechanical (?) aspected, and the tiste warrens? hmmm if we can figure out the socery used it might very well point to who exactly is decimating imass armies...

i dont think thats true. if memory serves (mind you, its failed before) i believe lanas turned into dust several times while travelling with envy. i think when she sees tool she says something like, i will follow you, first sword, and then they both t'lan imass transform! into dust

trotts is right... this is when Lanas, Tool and Kilava meet after Kilava has bumped the Third Seguleh unconscious. else it is a damn long walk for Lanas! How would she have crossed over from Assail to Coral? Hmmm maybe walked the bottom of the ocean :D
