I haven't seen the series. I didn't know there was one, to be honest. I don't watch a lot of anime.

Anyone hear about the Kill Bill prequal that coming out? Apparently it's anime, and shows the life of Bill before the movies. It could be good. The anime part of Kill Bill was good.

My problem with Kill Bill is he lifted the entire premise from an old 70's Japanese series called Lady Snowblood...right down to the song that plays when the bride and Oren Oshii fight. I'm kind of tired of Tarantino biting other peoples movies.

Isn't Tarantino's whole deal an homage to the lesser known awesomeness of other works? Kill Bill is quality; if it rips off an Anime production I've never heard of, I could care less.

Yes, and I agree. It's not only an homage to specific films/shows/comics, it's an homage to the entire genre of low budget kung-fu flicks.

Edit: And didn't the RZA compose the music for the film, including that fight scene?

Other than one creepy monster attempted rape scene, it's great.

So last night I was walking downtown for some pizza at like 1am with some friends of mine,
and someone said, "I'm so hungry I could eat a whole pizza."

I said, "I bet I could eat 100 pizzas," and no one understood me. I was sad.

I agree with Slum and Ray. Besides Tarantino does credit what the story was based off at the end of Volume II.

Besides most animes seem to have the same plot and story with only the setting and character names changed. Not to mention most companies are now recruiting in Shindojis which is basicly huge fan-fic-art conventions composed almost entirely of those bad stereotypical fan-artist-writers. This is the next generation of anime and manga, basicly just re-hash of everything and blatant rehash in which you know what the original story was.
Also a lot of manga's (which become animes) are already just rip-offs of previous ones.
So I don't see how you can hold a grudge against Tarantino, especialy when he gives it his own flavour and soul.

re - witchblade

that's an anime based on a western comic, believe it or not.

There was a live action tv series of it as well that came out in the late 90's/ early 2000's when it seemed like every tv network in the world was trying to cash in on buffy and charmed ("we need a show with a supernatural female lead")
meh. Link was dead :(

Downloading NS now, will try to fit it in somewhere ;)

Anyone seen Elfen Lied? Pretty violent, but if you get past that the story really is awesome.

http://www.crunchyroll.com

This site has practically everything that has not been bought for distribution here in North America for FREE streaming. They were given the rights to do so by all the major Japanese anime production companies. Only when they have been licensed for production and sale over here do they stop streaming them.

Have fun, there's ALOT of anime there. It's a fantastic site!....and it's all above board!

Never said I had a grudge. I said my problem with Kill Bill is....I actually DO like Kill Bill (the first part anyways), and yes, I realize that most of Tarantino's work is homage to other lesser known works.....I just wish he would come up with something completely original for once is all. I don't hate the man, I just grow tired of what he keeps coming out with. It would appear I was misconstrued. Sorry about that guys. :D

Oh, and Lady Snowblood was a live action 70's show....not anime. It was based off Manga, but is live action nonetheless.

All that being said....WHEN Tarantino himself is IN another persons film, he is usually awesome. Like Miike's newest, that I saw at last years Toronto Film Fest, "Sukiyaki Western Django" in which he has a cameo and he rules.

Sidenote: This film is entirely a Japanese cast (minus Tarantino), but they all speak in broken English. It's awesome!
