I think the Barghast Shamans would have been talking about a Champion. Cause Toc isnt that far away. The Champion was the Enkeral.
And no I dont think Karsa will be anyones mortal sword/Knight/Champion because he bends his knee to no one.

Mortal Sword, Destriant, Shield Anvil are dedicated to a particular god/ascendant as with Fenner, Treach/Trake etc.
Knights of Houses or Champions are serving the House/Hold
Now with the first... usually they choose to serve - as with the Grey Swords. Which is why Itkovian was musing on the Destriant, and Shield Anvil of Tog and Fanderay.."I didn't give them a choice" or similar words. Heboric too.. musing on Treach/Trake.. "you needed a Destriant Treach so you took me" blah blah.
With the second it appears to be whomever is on the throne of a particular House/Hold who chooses their Knight/Champion. At least that is how it appears to me....
A subtle but fine distinction I think. As with Hood/Baudin, the enk'haral. But thats just my take on it

heheh sytkan is tired of repeating himself in what 2months...now imagine how us folks feel;)
But choosing to serve and BEING choosen to serve are two different things. I could walk up to treach and say I want to serve as Mortal Sword, but tis up to him if he wishes me to serve. So its the same as being choosen for a position in the house or hold. Hood choose Daseem, Baudin, Gethol, etc. What I got from Hetan's first theory was that only Unaligned Gods have or choose to have Mortal Swords, Destraints, etc. where as the Aligned Gods share a house/hold and different "positions" So I mean Hood wants to have a Mortal Sword he just makes use of the positions in his House and Knight would make sense.
But on the main discussion, this still doesn't clarify wether Rhulad is or isn't the Mortal Sword. I still belive him to be Fool and Karsa to be Mortal Sword, until SE says so other wise lol:p

i think its pretty clear that Karsa is the knight in chains...does it not say so in HoC...im pretty sure it does, quite a few times in fact, by bidithil, the slavemaster and others. if this is true than Rhulad may well be the mortal sword, this will allow him to also serve as the fool if you so wish, as being a mortal sword does not exclude him from any role in the Deck.
plus, rhulkad has been given much power from the chained one, like the blessings of a mortal sword
