this is mentioned in MOI but its here just in case it involves info from other books....
In MOI pg 776 Hood is talking about the house of chains and he says that the house has found a mortal sword on some distant continent... any ideas on who/what it may be?

DEVA, I think Hood is referring to the Mortal Sword for the Chained God, not the god of death himself. Which would most likely be Rhulad. Baudin is the Knight of High House Death.
In that same passage on 776, Hood also mentions Poliel as Consort, an ancient warrior aspires to be Reaver (which we can only guess is Kallor from the appendix in HoC), and then it also mentions that a Herald has been recruited. Any ideas who that might be?

The Herald is Gethol: he accepted this position in MoI, after Hood dismissed him.

mortal swords are nothing to do with houses. mortaL swords are chosen by gods personally, knights of blah are positions in houses. remember houses arent necessarily linked with gods, cg let hoc run on its own, he does nt have a postion within it

Yeah Hood doesn't have a Mortal Sword, but he does have knights: Once Dassem Ultor (who became Dessambrae) and now Baudin. Who, I have a feeling, we haven't heard the last of...

Ummm... didn't SE mention that this was a screwup of sorts?
Anyways, IMHO this refers to Karsa. He's "Knight of Chains, Champion of the Crippled God" (HOC, p. ?, the scene where the Unbound find him at the Imass weapon cache/forge). So he's sort of the CG's Mortal Sword.

And I think Karsa is heading off after the CG cos he is sick of being manipulated, especially as his Gods turned out to be renegade T'lann Imass...

well, the CG doesnt seem to be the nice honest sort, so its likely that he lied to kallor, (serves him right). though to be honest i havent a clue, i spose it will become aparent what kallor is.
would the title of mortal sword have a meaning, so far on gods aspected to war in someway, or at least primal, have shown this. if it is i wud say rhulad is the mortal sword, makes sense, the CG chose him and gave him a sword. and i also remember karsa being called the knight of chains by silgar before karsa spits him.

Well it was Hetan who first brought this idea up, perhaps Mortal Sword is the same position as Knight/Champion in the deck. So far only unaligneds have had Mortal Swords all of the aligneds have Knights or Champions except for Shadow, but perhaps Assassin can take over for that position but thats another debate.
Now Rhulad seems very much the Fool to me, we know the creator of the High House Chain cards is cripple. Kallor being Reaver makes sense to some extent as Reave means to destroy or to deprieve one of something and all those meanings fit him perfectly. So if we take into account Hetan's theory of Kinght=Mortal Sword then Karsa=Mortal Sword.
@Rheanar : The Crippled God did not choose Rhulad for anything. The sword was to serve a purpose, which it didn't fulfil when Rhulad touched it. The CG is just making the best of the situation.

I can't help but wonder if there was something else at work, there. I mean, what are the odds that Rhulad would just stumble into the position of Fool? He fits it so perfectly. The only empty place is King, now (well, except of course for the Leper, but only because he died), and as he told Kallor, any one of them could aspire to advance into that position.
BTW, Any idea what position the Crippled God was offering Hannan Mosag? Magi?

perhaps, but i am not sure that the CG didnt choose rhulad. would it just purely be chance, the way it worked out? the CG seems to smart for that. the sword served its purpose, it kept rhulad alive, it allowed the CG to make an empire with the edur.
hetans theory makes sense, ive been gone ages n have many threads to read. also, the CG made the HOC then cut it loose, thus leaving himself unaligned, why cant he have a mortal sword and a knight?

I"m pretty sure that mortal sword is equivalent to knight, in a kind of more primal way.
What I want to know is who the mortla sword of Togg and Fanderay is. Itkovian is about to suggest that the recruit become the mortal sword, but the barghast shamans say that a mortal swrod has already been found far away? Will Karsa take this position after denying the crippled god?
