Hey all!
So I'm currently going through my first read of the series and I have a question related to Kilava. I'm a slow reader with a lot of breaks between my reading, so maybe I have read the answer in earlier books but alas I have forgotten it.I don't quite understand the reasons for her battle against Gruntle, the battle which ends in the last 5 pages of Chapter 18 in The Crippled God.

Why does she want the Eleint to be released from Starvald Demelain, what does she gain from it? Didn't she at one point avenge Trake when he was attacked by K'Chain Che'Malle so I would assume she would've ended up as Gruntle's ally.
Hopefully someone can clear this up, thank you!

Trake is Kilava's child.
Gruntle is trying to kill Trake because he's decided he hates war. As Trake's mortal sword, if Gruntle pulls the god with him and throws himself into a fight with a bunch of dragons, Trake is vulnerable.
To save Trake - yes, we know he's already dead, it's a god thing - Kilava gives Gruntle a mortal death.

Ahh okay, thank you Abyss! Now the scene makes more sense. I understood Gruntle's resentment towards Trake but I now I understand the rest. I had completely missed that Trake is Kilava's child, I truly need a re-reading of the series at some point.
