Hetans return though was a bit dispiriting. Feels like fan service with little narrative need. Was her return foreshadowed and I missed it?

Was that brutal end to the barghast then just to stop them being a significant force for this convergence?

I feel a bit like the emotional commitment DoD forces is underlined by her return.

I can't remember any foreshadowing of it.

We still have the Gilk at the convergence. I think the storyline of the Barghast in DoD was mostly about being stuck in the past, with half-forgotten prophecies noone understands and brutal traditions is in the long term a recepy for disaster and destruction. Spax and the Gilk are more realistic about their situation and adapt.

Also 100.000 Barghast showing up to the final battle might have made it to easy ^^

I don't know if this is technically foreshadowing, but
Spoiler

They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Finished. 30 hours of reading there.

Think it ends quite well and comes together nicely. I still don't know why Cotillion stabbed the CG, but I do recall being educated on this point before.

I think the second half of the book is better purely because the plot drives more. And it is good to see all the plot points joining up from the previous books.

Spinnock leading the Andii to the Shore with his rousing, shield-bashing, on-the-march speech is so badass. I'd love to see that in film.

The first shore stuff was pretty epic on the whole and would be pretty visually stunning.

As I recall, it was in order to set him free from his chains and return to his followers in the jade giants.

But he was teleporting up already? Or at least that's how I read it.

It's been a while since I read TCG but wasn't there some speculation that they outright killed him? So that the CG didn't have connection to Wu any longer and wouldn't enact revenge or something. It's been a very long time.
