But before I go ahead and waste my money, anyone else read it yet? And is it part of a series or something? Cause from the looks of it, it might be. But I can't seem to find any trace of it.

I'm reading it, and I love it so far. There's another book planned that will be set in the same world, Hawkspar, but I don't think it's a sequel. It has different main characters, and Talyn is complete in itself. I'd highly recommend it.
