At Bianca's ball, I think. I don't think much happened beyond Ferrovax making Harry aware he very much could kick him into the next century, but could be wrong.

At Bianca's ball, I think. I don't think much happened beyond Ferrovax making Harry aware he very much could kick him into the next century, but could be wrong.

Reread a few parts, relistened to the last chapters, from the party to the end.

Nice touch the Fomor having the turtlenecks just executing the humn guards and tossing the weregild at Marcone like it was nothing. Really makes the point clear.

Enjoyed Marcone rallying the troops and calling out the ghouls.

Mab is SO pissed.

Ebeneezer v Harry was as nasty as it had to be. Harry put up a good fight, mostly because of the Winter Knight mantle, but he had to lose to the Blackstaff. So he cheated. The emo in that fight was as brutal as the hits.

Demonreach taking Thomas was sufficiently wrenching. I kind of hope this sticks for a while. This sort of thing shouldn't be short term or consequence-free. And of course wherever Thomas returns it should be fucking epic.

Harry immobilizing Lara and Freydis as easily as he did was a nice touch to remind us that even if his Grandad is the baddest of the bad, Harry isn't exactly a wimp.

His chat w Lara, explaining that he didn't do it for the influence it gave him over her, was a really nice touch.



So, having Just Finished it...


Great book.
Not top five in my Dresden lineup, but satisfying even while it was mostly setup for the earth shattering kaboom to follow.

We saw a LOT of character development for Harry, Murphy, Ebeneezer, and to a lesser extent Thomas, Butters, Molly, Marcone, the Knights, even Mab. The world changed, in Chicago and wider.

Harry got a cool new car(the Monstermobile is a totally acceptable Beetle replacement), lost his new apartment, lost some allies, gained some new ones to the extent we call Lara an 'ally', but hey, she is his half-brother's half-sister... that makes them...ummm...yeah.

Butters got a werewolf threesome i don't believe i just typed that either.

We got to see that Murphy isn't completely broken... damn, that thing with the frags when Freydis grabbed her... that WAS so hot.

We see Molly is still a mess, and Michael is still the greatest dad ever.

We saw Ferrovax again...him being cowed by the titan REALLY made the point re how powerful she is.

We saw some new outsiders... i liked the cornerhounds.

I am utterly curious re the link between the Titan, Nemesis, and the outsiders.

I am absolutely certain someone important is going to die in BATTLEGROUND and i am dreading it.

In COLD DAYS, where it was promptly 'sploded, got better, and never seen again. This time he actually uses it. And i could be wrong but i think the paint job was new this book.
