Alright, so between the uptime tracker showing good signs and the lack of posts here, I'm assuming no-one has had any issues in the last 3-4 days.

If that is correct, then I think we've solved it. And by 'we' I mean Xae, because he was the one who found the culprit (a MySQL table running some slow queries).

Next on the list is fixing the emails, which should be done shortly as well now that the main issue is (hopefully) resolved.

Cheers big ears. :D

Yes, from my perspective there hasn't been any slow periods or 502/504s since my previous post on 15 Aug.

So jolly good. Please extend my regards to Xae as well.

Security certificate has pooped itself again.

Also - has anyone else not been getting any email notifications for a while now?

Thanks Silencer for getting the security certificate fixed.

However, I'm pretty sure email notifications are still borked.

Also, did anyone else get 502 Bad Gateway messages over the last 24 hours?

Email has been borked for a long time now. It may not be possible to fix it.

It’s about 50:50 whether I get a 502 or go the website.

Fair enough. I knew it wasn't working for me but wasn't sure about anyone else.

Ditto. It isn't just entry to the site but it can happen jumping between threads or pages and can last from minutes to hours for me.

Ditto for above, plus a bunch of 502 and 504 Gateway errors.

Sorry about that.

I'm getting a lot of security certificate concerns when coming to the site.

Yep, site really slow this morning and more 502s. Been intermittent ever since my post on the 16th.

EDIT: particularly during my mornings, so around 8pm GMT.

Same, plus the slowness and occasional 502s occurring during our evening (from about 0800 GMT onward).

But in all seriousness, well this is really just the latest in a long line of slowdowns of the forum, plus there's been bot problems, plus emails from the domain are still blocked by many common services so people can't register with gmail accounts or receive notifications, and many other problems.

Silencer has been keeping the lights on and occasionally getting Xae to tackle the most severe issues in the back end, but neither of them are regularly active anymore, and patching this forum's horrifically outdated systems is (rightly) less and less of a priority for them.

If there's somebody who wants to take over hosting the server and to try fixing the ongoing issues (both of which will take time and money) then I can try to get a hold of Silencer to figure out how to transfer it. But given how old the forum system we use is (no longer even supported by IPB, IIRC) even then it's unlikely you'll find much success at fixing it short of migrating the forum to a whole new (expensive?) modern version of the IPB or another forum platform, which is a huge undertaking.

I'm happy to work with them to modernize everything. It will be a lot of work, but none of it is impossible.
