Grifters are already going hard: Missouri Sues Televangelist Jim Bakker For Selling Fake Coronavirus Cure. I've seen anecdotes on social media about people trying to scam others into buying essential oils from their MLMs. Oh and the eternal colloidal silver, along with Alex 'drink driving' Jones' "supplements".
The worst is Qanon trying to convince people to buy "Miracle Mineral Solution". If the name isn't enough warning, it's just bleach. You CAN use very small amounts of bleach to kill waterborne pathogens but this isn't a cholera outbreak and while the US does have problems with potable drinking water (see Flint, Michigan and Newark, New Jersey plus a bunch of other places known and unknown) I don't believe bleach helps with heavy metal contamination (and some brands of bleach have a bit of mercury in them lolz).
Why worry about dying from coronavirus complications when you can just drink bleach tho.

Trump is obviously struggling to read the teleprompter, and repeatedly mangling basic English grammar---and not as any sort of idiom either (fittingly while banning travel and imports from Europe, calling it a 'foreign disease', and blaming the EU for allowing it to spread to the US o' A):
'I am confident that by counting [bizarre sharp intake of breath], and continuing to take these tough measures' [obviously misread 'continuing' as 'counting'... ffs]

Wow: 'The president then made an awful bungle. He said “these prohibitions will not only apply to the tremendous amount of trade and cargo, but various other things as we get approval”. Such words could trigger global economic panic. Trump was forced to hastily clarify on Twitter: “... very important for all countries & businesses to know that trade will in no way be affected by the 30-day restriction on travel from Europe. The restriction stops people not goods.”'

I also can’t help but to wonder IF it’s possible this is what actually hit my house what 3 weeks ago now? They just suspected my son had HAD the flu(was neg in test which apparently spread to me that had me bed ridden and crawling on the floor lacking the strength to even hold the thermometer in my mouth as I burnt up with 104 fever and probably passed some bug onto my flu vaccinated father who last week spent almost 24 hrs in bed burning up. My daughter tested positive for flu about a week or more ago.
This would ease my mind so much if I could find out we had nothing to worry about at present. Would it even be possible to find out after that much time had passed if one had it or does all trace of its existence disappear after your body beats the virus?
Not sure I’m being to doom n gloom/paranoid there. Or if it’s a legit possibility.
I think it would have already plastered the news here locally if that was the case with other people getting hit.

A test doesn't exist yet to determine if you HAD the virus. There will be one eventually but those kind of tests check your blood for circulating antibodies against the virus. You only produce those at the end of infection as your immune system figures out how to beat it. And that also depends on whether we stay immune long term - some things our immunity wears off with time, other things adapt to evade it, like the flu virus.
The only test they have now is one for whether you actively HAVE the virus. They identify virus RNA directly from a throat swab. It's not a cheap kind of technology and takes a lot of time and effort to do unless a lab has lots of automated instrumentation. Initially the UK was only set up for 2000 tests a day in one Public Health Lab. They doubled it by starting to use an NHS lab as well this week. This is why they aren't testing everyone who thinks they have it. The stocks of equipment needed aren't inexhaustible either. Eventually there will be no point testing apart from in hospital units where they won't want to mix coronavirus patients with flu patients and risk a double hit.

In other news, Covid19 is now officially a problem. It has interfered with my plans, directly impacting my life in a detrimental manner. I must needs stockpile toilet paper and bottled water.
Was supposed to be going to the 'concert of the year' with Morgy on Friday night. The liberal media, aided by Covid19, has cancelled it. No rock punk jazz fusion for us.

Hoo boy, here we go.
Except he wasn't. He initially tried to paint it as a Democratic ploy/hoax (AKA gaslighting his older voters...who I shit you not are still parroting this nonsense hoax theory on Fox News sites), then he tried to play it off as a simple flu that everyone could deal with by just "doing nothing", and then he asked a proper health official why they can't just use the regular "flu shot" for it (I mean....holy fuck how dense must one be?), then he tried to claim that the numbers everywhere are inflated (they are not, and in a lot of cases they are way underreported/innacurate. He's only capitulated now because his hand is forced and he can't pretend this is a nothing flu strain now and is important. You know how I know this? Because he ACTUALLY read off a telepromter. Mr. Make it up as I go along and ignore officials...had to listen to officials..NOW. But let me explain that NOW...is far too late. This shit is already in your older communities. and the window of contagiousness is too broad to assume this will get better before it gets worse.
He's also not MY president, as I'm Canadian. So you know...
No, this administration dithered, and tried their best to avoid saying anything about this for WEEKS...they are doing stuff now. But as I said, "now" is too late.
You seem to misunderstand the notion that eveyrhign happening now is too late. IT'S TOO LATE. If you wait to tell people wight to do till it's deemed pandemic, and the original country that it infected, and now more countries are in full lockdown over it...you waited way too long. Proactivity is the right thing to do. Trump would not know proactivity if it bit him in his surprisingly large ass.
And? I fail to see how this has anything to do with Trump's shitty response to this?
Interesting. I guess that in South Korea where they took high precautions early as a government...and the resulting numbers of infected and deaths are so much lower is just a fluke then compared to elsewhere then huh?
But hey, don't believe me, let's dive in.
Here are the numbers of tests per million people administered in 8 countries.
corona-virus-tests-8-countries.jpg (182.32K)
Number of downloads: 0
In a country of 51.3millon people, they were testing 3700 people per million, and 189k have been tested by Mar 8....the US with a pop over 6 times SK's, they are testing 5 ppl every mil....
This results in...guess what...a LOWER DEATH RATE (0.6% for 6000 cases confirmed), compared to the US has a 5% death rate with 221 cases and 12 deaths based on 1500 people tested.
Those numbers should absolutely STAGGER your comment that governments "do not save you"....they certainly fucking do when they are competent and proactive...the difference between a death rate of 0.6% and a full fucking 5% is....sweet gods...insane. Add in the difference in populations and those numbers prospectively jump into the stratosphere.
Stop buying the line that Trump handled this well. The numbers don't lie.
