One thing I think will alter is just one thread per book, and we'll operate on the spoiler tag option.
Purely because if the book club continued the OTher Lit forum will be clogged with our stuff.
Ideally this will eventually be a busy enough club that we sub forum it, but so far there's only been a few for each book.
I would say this uptake is a dual pronged problem. I (personally) find it very difficult to stick to the weekly deadlines, either having no time and dropping off behind, or having enough time to read, in which case I plough on as it's not in my nature to stop mid point in a book if I have time to carry on.
Hence my thinking of yes, we have suggested weekly reading areas and discussion breaks, just one thread so if someone reads on they can post their thoughts/questions in separate spoiler tag chunks that people can read as they catch up.
The second problem I think is some people had already read the choices and didn't want to reread or weren't engineer by the offering. Nothing we can do with that.
Anyway, I am enjoying it as it is a bit more focused than the what are you reading thread and it's nice to see other thoughts and takes on books as you have just finished them and they're fresh in your mind.
I'll open up for suggestions, for the next book, with a view to getting it picked this weekend, a week for people to get a copy then we'll start.
My suggestions:
A death in the Family - by Karl Ove Knausgard. (Lady friend just finished it and reco'd it too me as being something vastly different to what I normally read)
Sixteen ways to defend a walled city - KJ Parker (have it sitting on my TRP)
Senlin Ascends - Josiah Bancroft (same, on trp)
book, senlin Ascends, spoiler breaks, parts 1, 2 & 3. Label spoilers appropriately
