So I'm in a middle of a reread(relisten) fresh off the heels of Path to Ascendancy.
Most reading orders out there suggest that that RotCG comes after TRG.
I can't remember why. I feel that there are no particular spoilers that follow through. The big thing that happens in RotCG only gets mentioned in TCG.
I personally felt that RotCG feels better to go straight after TBH as it picks up on the Imperial things that were prominent in the last bit of it, and also lets us feel the gap while the Bonehunters sail across to Lether for a year (?).
Thoughts?

And, it fits nicer with the rest of the books allowing to alternate SE and ICE books freely, sticks OsT straight after TtH, all of which fits my mini-OCD nicely:
NoK-TBH-RotCG-TRG-SW-TtH-OST-DoD/TCG-BaB-Ass
Although admittedly that way Traveller spent a very long time traveling on his raft before killing that bear.
But still.

IIRC, the main reason for placing RG before RotCG is that at the end of RG, Toc the Younger finds out from Hood that his father is alive. We then meet Toc the Elder in RotCG, and then he dies towards the end of that book (for real this time), so experiencing this in the reverse order feels a bit odd (and might even be confusing for a first time reader). One might also argue that Skinner being named King-in-Chains at the end of RotCG kind of spoils the fate of Rhulad in RG.
Of course, none of these things would be a big deal on a reread.

Yes, that makes sense, thank you. Quite right.
