I think the TV series has taken the view that having characters die off page/screen between stories wouldn't work so well in TV format (agreed, to be honest) - as far as I can recall Ragnar, Thyra and Beocca all die between books with Uhtred making some passing reference in the start of the next one.

So both Ragnar and Thyra are changes... but I feel like they worked. It provided a nice excuse to get Team Uhtred and Brida back together for a bit as well, which is another relationship which almost entirely disappears in the books.

season 3 felt weaker than the first 2. A lack of direction and we are still no closer to bebenburgh.

The entire skaeld storyline seemed to be circling. Also I'm sure that this interpretation of literally needing to die with a sword in your hand to get to Valhalla is incorrect. Also The king is a dick and always has been but he is the author of half his own misfortune at this point.

I think it's more coding for "dying honourably in battle". Besides which, swords were expensive and if you had a sword in those days you were somebody important, so there were probably pretty practical reasons to not want to lose it (think most people had axes, clubs etc).

Specifically, series 2:

Kjartan the Cruel lived his life dishonourably, so Ragnar depriving him of his sword I think is quicker coding for him not reaching Valhalla than having Uhtred or Brida stand around explaining it afterwards.

Granted, they do run with it very literally in series 3 though.

I think this series (if they keep it from the books) is the one where we see Uhtred mucking about with fake Christian relics. As I recall, it's genuinely laugh out loud funny.

Watched the first two episodes. Solid TLK fare so far, although I don't remember the corresponding books that well. Pretty sure we've had a name change for one character and possibly a bit of blending roles together but can't be sure. Doesn't bother me though, they changed plenty the previous series and it worked very well

As I said I quite enjoyed this this time around but I still much preferred Vikings S1 to this with the way it depicts both religions in cool acid trip moments but still makes you go "hmm did that really just happen from on high?" but I will indeed happily eat shit for my Vikings is superior and this wasn't worth my time attitude on the original attempt.

It appears that on the Isle of Man, the location on Netflix goes a bit funny and there's only 1 season of this on Netflix...

Season 1: great
Season 2: even better and so much happens in those 8 episdoes
Season 3: weaker
Season 4: What the hell is going on, So many episodes seem to exist to just increase the length of the season! No sure how much of what happened is factually accurate or based ont the books

1) Kids are bargaining chips, no they are not yes they are
2) What kind of kind of king leaves his capital undefended? The answer 3 out of 3

There seems to have been an entire episode about plague that served zero purpose!
