I second the R. Scott Bakker rec! :no

Brian Ruckley's The Godless World trilogy is right up your alley as well.

The Gor series by John Norman.
“The others followed, and found themselves in a small, stuffy basement, which would have been damp, smelly, close, and dark, were it not, in fact, well-lit, which prevented it from being dark.”

A joke? Then I rescind my recommendation of The Horny Knight.

Thanks for the laughs about romance novels. I had a splendid chuckle. Took my mind off the dirtbag on the train yesterday who was dropping the worst egg farts known to humankind.

Anyhoo I decided to read Bloody Rose by Nicholas Eames

But to answer your other question about Romance novels I could probably recommend stuff by: Kimmie Kaboom, Sofia Rose, Alura Jenson, Moriah Mills and Julia Sands.

Robert Jackson Bennett's Divine Cities.

Hey, I just started City of Stairs today. Any words about the series as a whole (no spoiler ofc)? Is it worth the read?

Awesome. Final book is the best imo.

This, especially if you can get your hands on the omnibus 'first chronicles of the black company'.

I own them all individually on my Kindle.

Read them in one hit? Or savour them like rare fruit plucked from the vine?

Initially you can do them as one-offs but you might decide different as you progress. The series is definitely a serial, but the first few books are more independently arced...the further south the BC goes, though, the more the books become one long story.

As clarification, worry means "South" as the direction the Black Company travels in later books, not "south" in terms of quality.
