This "the dark" series sounds very nice, but of course any movie of a Malazan Empire book is by far preferable :(.

Kallor, if i may give some advise, i had trouble finding anything about your project. I don't see links from this site (except from your personal page here) and it is impossible finding the site via google. I'm sure there are a lot of people who know how to get your site ranked (up). I have only minor knowledge of this sort of stuff.

Also the site leaves me with a sense of: "what the heck is this"? For example, is it a movie made from a comic? A comic made from a movie? Animation? Real acting? When is it finished? Overall i think the site is a little messy and could be improved.

Hopefully you are not offended ;) i only give advise. Just ignore me if you allready knew all this :p. Keep up the good work!

Yeah what is the Dark website? I had it once, but lost it. If you could perhaps have a link in your sig, Patch, that would be awesome! :(

the dark...is an episodic sci-fi television show but on the web. the creators are steven erikson, david keck and mark paxton-macrae. ICE will join them along with special plotlines and stories by other famous sci-fi writers. subscribers shell out $20 US to 'enlist' (and $12.00 every 3 months)...that is, to share in the ultimate sci-fi fan experience. ask what you like of cast and crew. watch rehearsals and filming, the fights, you catch my drift. participate in our trivia and other contests for signed memorabilia. get a cameo as a character in 'the dark comic' by GMB Chomichuk and Ryan Bartel. wear the coolest set of dog tags in the galaxy. have a direct opinion on the series. get special access passes for conventions. belong.

now, we are funding ourselves on our fans and they, not network executives or government bureaucrats, call the shots. our success depends solely on giving the fan the best experience we can.

we had our wrap party for the dark last night (we finished filming on friday night about 2:30 am). James Rewucki, our director, stayed at the studio and digitized the entire 5.5 hours of tape...and made up a trailer which he surprised me with at the party...wow...it's not quite finished enough to post, but damn, it did make me feel proud. it made me realise we have accomplished much, much more than we expected. as soon as i can, i'll get it posted to our site.

@valheru...actually, the site has been kinda secret as i didn't want it 'known' until we ere ready to support it. balancing this though was the need to get some idea of the project's potential; thus it was made known to you folks as se's fans. the site is a bit of a mess, true, but i have some professionals rebuilding it on a parallel domain...faster, slicker, darker.

more to come...

When you are ready to go public with it, get in touch with these guys:

http://forum.sfx.co.uk/index.php?sid=bc06d...70f41badb91ce40

(that's the forum, there's also contact details on the website itself at www.sfx.co.uk)

SFX is the UK's biggest-selling SF magazine, with over 35,000 copies sold each month, so you can get quite a lot of publicity out the magazine. They're a bit dubious about projects like this (due to an incident about 8 years ago involving a similar project called 'Legion' which fell through and left a lot of people out of pocket after SFX had supported it heavily), but if it's actually finished, ready to go and people can see what they are buying ahead of time, it should get good support.

just in reguards to the previous posts about the movie/series, from what kallor is saying and the direction they want to go in with this i am loving every min of it, its about time someone made something as decent as the malazan series on any type of moving image be it big screen, anime, tv series, shadow puppets. And its good to hear they want to get the funds themself without going thru a major studio it would be good to see what they can do when left up to their own devices, and im sure from the way they are describing the way the want to go about making this project that its going to be well worth the wait, whatever u guys incharge of it do, just make sure it comes to australia. I'll send you a prawn to put on the barbie if u do.

also i dont think it matters so much about living up to fans expectations coz i reckon as long as you guys do this with the upmost artistic freedom and without any outside influences i reckon the fans will love it, either way, full respect for giving it a crack on ur own terms

As a fan, my expectation is that Erikson produces a film that expresses what he wants it to.

It will probably be years before any type of production is concretely developed. Other authors have this same problem, RJ has had people kicking around the idea of creating a Eye of the World movie for YEARS and YEARS.

Just saying dont expect anything in the near future.

*EDIT* Holy sh t this thread has 62 pages, and to think I was going to read them all, good thing I stopped at the 2nd or 3rd hehe.

@ Salavation bloke

Im fairly certain that RJ has pretty much outright sold the rights to make a movie of "Eye of the World." Which means that he would have very little say over how the movie turns out. Ursala Le Guin had a similar thing happen.

In the case of malazan world if you read some of the early parts of the thread Erikson is not going to let some producer ruin the movie. That is they want to make sure the Author, (Erikson) stays there as a part of the production the whole way through.

an eye of the world movie would be a mistake. there is a script (actually, 2) of chain of dogs. the problem is funding, which i am trying to get around by a careful progression of projects. Ol' frizzy baby pretty much used his friendship with the head of telefilm to prevent any success there, so i must find an alternate route.
