Many posts here about it the release and avail...

Here's the short version - only released in a ltd. release in a slip-cased hardcover, in the UK (500 copies?). I ordered mine from amazon.uk in May and received it in July. (I'm in Toronto) Not sure how many copies are left... Anyone have an update?

We are all hoping that all copies of this run get purchased to push for a wide-release of NoK and perhaps more from ICE.

I know that I've sold more than 20% of the 500 copy edition and 10% of the 200 copy slipcased edition. I'm astonished that it's not out of print yet. I ordered more from Pete last week and he said he had them still. I just can't imagine that there are many more.

It's published by PSPublishing, which does limited run prints (For NoK it was 300 slipcase hardback signed by Erikson and ICE, and another 500 plain hardback just signed by ICE), and they are almost always that expensive;) (Well, not quite, because most aren't as long as NoK) There are no currently announced plans for a re-print, and Bantam won't do it because they don't own the rights;)

To get it cheap, you gotta search the second hand sections of sites like Amazon, occasionally they turn up at a lower price...

I also found my first Erikson in a second hand bookshop, looking rather tattered. I got it on the Donaldson review. It's scary to think how my life might have been quite different if I hadn't picked that up...
...and also the fact that there must have been someone who didn't like it to put it in the shop in the first place :D

A friend of mine (Matrim) read GotM as an e-book (pirat copy I'm afraid) and liked it so much that he ordered it from Amazon.co.uk (we don't have many english books here and although MBotF has appeared ocasionally (one or two copies of each book here and there) it's very hard to find any particular book you want :/). Then he gave it to another friend of mine (Jorram) who also liked it very much and gave it to me. And being the own-it-NOW! fetishist that I am, I ordered all of the books from Amazon.

Quite boring, eh? I wonder why I wrote this...

Great book. Definitely worthwhile if you're a malazan completist, but yes, pricey.

With a bit of editing, it would have been an excellent intro to the Malazan series. Imnsho, pity it wasn't packaged as a low-cost intro and released EVERYWHERE at a low price. Casual reader picks it up for less than the cost of a doorstopper paperback, gets interested, picks up the other books. Probably would have caused enough of a spike in MBotF sales to offset the cost.

I felt like I got my money's worth, but even so, $50CAN+ for under 300pgs is a little painful.

- Abyss, had to give up beer and coffee for a few weeks to afford it.

Night of Knives is excellent. It's nearly as good as Erickson's books. The atmosphere and details are similar!
