I'm on the last stretch of this fine book for the third time and I picked up an exchange that I can't recall being explained in any other book in the series. (Admittedly it has been a while since I read many of the others).

Towards the end of the book Trotts gives the name Niganga as an alias provoking a reaction from Whiskeyjack that suggests the name has significance.

Does it crop up again?

Don't think so, no. It's just a pseudonym.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

Thanks. I couldn't recall it being significant, but I'd completely forgotten that conversation in the first place

Never came up again afaik.
I think it was intended to be a ref to some Bridgeburners mission we never heard about.

I've always interpreted it as Trotts making fun of the people of Darujhistan and their fascination with wild, barbaric and romantic half-naked Barghast, by picking the most cliched barbarian sounding name he could come up with.
