What's the deal with empty net thing? Is it some kind of penalty? Seen it a few times but I don't think they ever say why.

The Netcronomicon forbids public mention but the team 'pulls' the goalie who is then ritualistically sacrificed in an attempt to invoke the Elder Gods in the form of a sixth player on the ice who may turn the game in the team's favor and/or bring destruction on the opposing team..

SHHH! I was trying not to mention that, you know the rules about non-canadians... The council of 13 will be hearing about this.

Also the Jets absolutely spanked Nashville last night and are moving on! Nice to see at least one Canadian team surviving.

The sweeter it will be when Vegas sends those pillow biting moose fuckers back to Canada. J/K, you know that by now, right?

If the WinnyPig Pets win, I'll send congrats your way.Posted Image

Hey you never know, after the thwomping nashville got last night against winnipeg they could take it all the way too! Lot's of evenly matched teams right now, there doesn't seem to be a clear favourite.

Well, you know by now I'm rooting for Vegas. I guess in the other series, I'm pulling for Washington Capitals over Tampa Bay Lightning. I have family that lives and works in the D.C. area. They're big Washington Nationals fans in the MLB, but hey don't follow hockey as much. Still, I know they'll pay attention if their team is this far in the playoffs.

Must have partaken in that extra shot of syrup before the game.

Wait, doesn't everybody? Maple syrup and gatorade is a great sports drink to keep you hydrated during the game.

You forgot Tim Horton donuts.

Caps up 2-0 on Lightning. Family in D.C. must be smiling.

Hopefully Vegas GKs can tie it up tonight. Make them WinnyPig Pets squeal like they are turning over a roasting spit.

Damn you're right. With all this hockey talk I forget there are non-canadians here. I'll be in trouble if the Royal Canadian Moose Police catch me. Er, Mounted police, definitely Mounted Police...
Apologies to our great beaver overlords.

You forgot to mention the mystical power of the Wendigo. You're Canadian, you should be ashamed. If this was Mexico, you know they would invoke the mystical power of the Chupacabra to ensure a win. Anyway.

Let's go Vegas!

Regardless whether they win the cup or not, it's going to be really interesting to see what kind of team Vegas has next season. Most of their players are free agents after this year and the way they've been playing I imagine will want a pay bump. There's no way Vegas will be able to afford all of them even with the increased salary cap so there will definitely be some trades this offseason. Especially if they win, then they will probably try and start getting some younger guys and draft picks to help build the team in the future.

Next season? You gotta be shittin' me. Who gives a hairy rat's ass about next season! We are in the hear and now sweetheart. And Vegas has a chance to hoist the cup, butter cup. Focus on that while you sweat bullets for your precious, last Can't-A-Duh hope (WinnyPig Pets) can got through to championship series (which they won't).

I suppose you're right, we have the whole offseason to talk about that. Maybe I'm just bitter the Leafs are out already. It would be nice if Winnipeg wins since it's been a while since a Canadian team has won the cup but it's not the end of the world if they lose, it's not like they're the Leafs or anything (Who are absolutely, for sure, definitely, going to win next season).
Although if the Jets make it into the finals I'll definitely be cheering for them.

Nice! It's great to see that the semi-finals are so competitive this year, no one is a clear favourite which makes things more fun and interesting.

Yeah man, you'd think the Caps going to home ice up 2 - 0 on Lightning, the series would be a wrap.

Come on Tampa! 2-1 in 1st!!

Y'all fuckers are depressing me to. Leaving it to the guy who barely knows anything about the sport other then watching the Olympic Games to fill the thread up.

Sorry! Was super busy the last few days. Tampa ties up their series now 2-2, I'm surprised how close these semi-finals are.

Ok so what exactly is an iceing? Throwing ice on someone with stick or blades or something like NFL's intentional grounding? It's not really clear to me what's happening when it's called.

An icing is when you shoot the puck down the ice towards the opposing side before you reach the centre red-line. Once you have crossed the line then you can dump the puck in. This is to keep the game fast paced and prevent defending teams from just shooting it away all the time. Although, if you ice the puck and your player is ahead of the opposing teams player (further down the ice) towards the opposing zone then the icing can be waved off. Basically whoever reaches the dots where they take faceoffs in the zone first after the puck is iced is when it's decided. So if your player gets there first there is no icing but if the opposing team does then an icing is called.
Once an icing is called the faceoff takes place back in your own zone and you are not allowed to make a player change, so you don't want to ice it when your players have been on long since they'll be tired and in their own zone which gives an advantage to the opposing team as they are allowed to change.

However, if you have a penalty then you are allowed to ice it in that situation only.

Sorry if that's a bit confusing
