Figured I'd set up a thread for book 2, now that book 1 is out.

I'll not divulge anything in terms of plot details (unless asked) as I don't wish to spoil Incarnate for anyone.

Current progress is maybe 50% completed (picking up where I'd left off) so I'd be minded to aim for a December / January release so long as I can finish up over the summer.

Thanks, hope you enjoy :)

Reviewed my progress on Manifest. It's going to be a bit tricky getting back to this because my writing style is not one that flows chronologically - if I get stuck on a bit, I leave it and come back later. But I have collated everything onto one document for formatting.

Presently at 105,800 words. I'd guess from what's left to add in we'll call that 2/3 done; Manifest is looking like it'll not be quite as long as Incarnate, but we'll see as I go along with filling the blanks in.

Oh, by the way, Manifest will have an airship battle. Have I mentioned about the airship battle? 'Cause there totally is one.

Still only 5% into Incarnate but I have a question about the story progression. Is the series focused solely on the point of view of Kaenna or do other protagonists emerge to create a more complex split narrative? Is Manifest also about Kaenna?

Chapter two introduces Herik who's sort of Kaenna's opposite / her primary antagonist (though not an antagonist per se). The opening five chapters are, in fairness, pretty long - from the sound of it you're close to the end of chapter one

Act 2 introduces Anderas who becomes much more of a player in Manifest. His chapters in Incarnate are more of a long setup for his part in book 2, and feature Cezia, who is probably my favourite character).

Manifest largely focuses on the primary three, with additional segments focusing on Shiza (whose role in Incarnate is relatively minimal, and does not involve being crushed by a rock after a fight with Wamuu - although he does get three POV chapters), as well as some others.

Started chapter 2. Yeah, these are definitely long chapters. Much excited for this new POV though. I do like me some Templar like characters in my fantasy.

Herik is more of a staunch, everyman character than the others, loosely based on working Yorkshiremen. I'm hoping people dig the idea of the Umbral Shields, they went through a LOT of revisions before the present layout - originally they were a betrayed mercenary order., but I couldn't get that to go anywhere at all. I'd say he's the antithesis of Kaenna, as a general rule - more chaotic good to neutral good compared to Kaenna's neutral evil.

Oh yeah, fun fact. Hannah (TheRetiredBridgeburner) did the map for Incarnate.

Tying up a scene where
Spoiler
.

The WIP manuscript has been de-formatted, which is obviously a nice thing. Mostly right now it's a case of tying things together, adding dates to the chapters (the chronology of book 2 is not entirely linear) and adding chapters and detail where required. I'm expecting it'll end somewhere around the 150k mark.

Progress update: 108,148 words. The pieces of the puzzle are starting to come together. There's a fair bit of walk and talk in this book as the characters migrate to a slightly different setting to the one Incarnate is based in. But in terms of pacing, it's much like the first, with the Erikson Snowball method being used.

It's a Herik chapter I'm working on right now. They're always fun.

Managing some general progress but still being a little stymied by certain segments. It's not that I don't know what needs to happen, it's more that I can't quite find the words to adequately make them happen.

OK, we're rumbling forwards. The pieces are falling into place. There's some retconning of the existing manuscript to make it work, but that's to be expected. Writing a siege is a lengthy process.

You should be using google docs and taking USB back-ups in various file formats every day you write.
