Go shin!
How is our keeper setting going to work? In regards to cost to keep a player. I've heard that some leagues do it where if you draft a player in round six and decide to keep him, you give up your fifth round pick the following year. I'm not sure of other ways that it's done. Any thoughts or ideas for how we should do it?

Thats the way i've done it in the past, and the way i think it works best, but i don't think we actually discussed it.

I don't think we did either. I was looking for a little clarity due to Watson's injury. He might be worth keeping due to how well he played and the fact that I grabbed him from waivers. We may want to discuss / agree on guidelines at some point. Clearly someone else was considering it too by adding OBJ this week.

Yeah, that was me, and indeed with the idea of making him a keeper), seeing how my draft consisted mostly of veterans and glass cannons, none of whom I feel will help me out long term.
I hadn't considered any cost mechanics - I thought we'd just nominate one player on our roster to stay as a "round zero" pick, giving OBJ the added opportunity cost of carrying him for the remainder of the season.

Yeah, some clarity, because I dropped Rodgers because of this post. I drafted him to save him, but if it means whoever keeps him loses their 1st round pick, I decided against it.
It wouldn't be fair for someone to snag someone like OBJ or Rodgers from the waiver wire, and not pay the same penalty as the original drafter. I was thinking it meant any player that someone keeps is based on the round he was drafted regardless.
Now, if it was a keeper of a player that wasn't drafted, I could see that.
If you drafted a player in round 5 and keep, you lose your round 4 pick? If you drafted a player in round 2 and keep, you lose your round 1 pick? So what happens if you keep someone from round one? Keepers league stuff is brand new to me.

Yes, we should have discussed this before. But we're all old and busy and it didnt happen.
We have 2 options.
1) You keep whichever player you want and it doesn't effect your draft at all. You still have all 14 picks.
2) You keep a player and you lose whatever round that player was drafted in, whether you drafted him or not. So if i keep Gurley, I do not have a 2nd round pick.
Let me know!

Another question should be. If you elect to keep a completely undrafted player what draft position does that count against. I am starting to come around to point 1.

I like option 2 - if we agree on that we just have to do it right. One question would be how to handle undrafted free agents and the other cost associated question would be how to handle keeping the same player for consecutive years.
I'd propose we do what I've seen though a little research. Undrafted free agents are assigned a mid-late round pick (say 9-12 range) based on league consensus. Keeping them in place of a round 15 pick provides too much value, but there should be a benefit to waiver wire play and finding a breakout player. If a player is kept in consecutive years, the round used increases every season and increases by 2 for the undrafted players.
For example - Tom Brady is drafted in round four. For the next season, he can be kept as a forth round pick. If kept for the following year, he'd be a third round pick.
For an undrafted player - Alvin Kamara is picked up from the waiver wire. The following season he can be kept as a twelfth round pick. If kept the following season, he'd be a tenth round pick.

I vote for option 2. I credit Stalker for his research, but I don't see any reason to increase the round penalty seeing as we voted to have a max of two keepers.(one from this season, and another from next season)
I think picking up an undrafted player needs no harsh penalty/some reward, therefore losing your last round pick, 14th, is my vote.

I like option 2.
I also like Stalkers idea with increasing cost for keping player more years.
IT is supposed to give problems keeping your established superstars.

I like option 2 and would be all for it (although it might cost me OBJ).
Like Stalker, I see a minor issue with injured/suspended superstars going late on year/ UDFAs who are then kept fairly cheaply.
There's also one minor practical issue with losing draft picks: our draft is already a bit of a drag with differing time zones between players.
If it now also skips certain players in certain rounds, whether based on how long they're on a team or not, aren't provisionals and drafting within the correct time slot going to be much more of a headache?

I let Jimmy Graham go early in the season, and he is putting up good scores the last few weeks. I am sure King Lear picked him up, she must have dropped him because now he's with SlowBen helping him to first place.

Basically, yes. You need to win both games and have everyone in 5th place down lose. Beyond that, you also need to score a ton of points so that you'd win the tiebreaker.

Man, tough season.
3rd in points scored, and 1st in points scored against (over Obdi by less than a point).
That's the way the ball bounces sometimes.
Another note, does it seem like Obdi has been up against the top points scored against for the last few years or maybe I'm mistaken.

No, you're right. At least 2 or 3 seasons he's had decent points, just hit wrong every week. Seems like theres been a lot of that this year. Teams at the bottom and the top could easily flip flop with different schedules.

Urgh. I forgot to redo the team for Thursday Night Football because work is insane and I went to a concert straight after. So instead of 34 pts for Rivers and 23 for Allen, I get Eli's 1.42. Huzzah.
