Friend of mine at work got his 9 year old son a Warhammer 40K starter pack for Christmas and his son is completely obsessed with it. I mentioned the are a load of different book series set in the universe and he is very interested in getting some. Which ones would be the best to start with and are they suitable for a 10 year old? Thanks!

Honestly, I don't think I'd recommend any for an average 10 year old.
Maybe if the kid was an advanced reader who had previously read stuff with more adult concepts, but otherwise, no.

On the one hand 40k is insanely violent and graphic about it (it's also utterly batshit crazy). On the other hand it kinda depends on the kid as well - at that age I was watching WW2 documentaries a lot and of course the Holocaust got covered. I wasn't really shocked or bothered by much of it, partly because some things I just didn't really understand and partly because I was just fascinated by the conflict and everything that went with it. Plus I was playing stuff like Quake and whatnot.
The lightest 40k books I can think of are the Ciaphas Cain novels - there is still plenty of violence but it also has good humor. It really depends what the kid has been exposed to already and what his parents think he can handle.

I haven't read any of them, and honestly I don't think they appeal to me, but that said, I wouldn't be posting unless I had something relevant to contribute. If it's the 40K stuff your friend is after and Ebooks are an option (and apparently an audio book as well) humblebundle has a hell of a deal on with 26 40K books for $15 for the next couple days. https://www.humblebu...mer-book-bundle
