It was a medal with a ribbon.

I have the drawing skills of a 3 year old, and I'm unphased by this. Half of out family's anecdotes about my grade school years have something to do with me almost failing drawing.

I wasn't held back only because of teachers' pity, and b/c I was always diligent with homework, albeit it was usually incomprehensible.

My mind is not wired for art. But in Grade 1 I was already reading @ Grade 5 level.

Edit: and Bubba's drawing is both amazing AND literal.

We didn't do that nonsense back home. My parents checked my agenda, where teachers wrote down our marks aeveryday, and everyone in the family was on the same page.

But publicly displaying achievements? For smth that was expected to be a "normal" state of things? We all had better things to do.

The practice was alien to me (and anyone I knew back home) until I came to Canada at age of 12.

Then I started seeing families do it on TV

Yeah, back home art, music and dance were part of curriculum every year since Grade 1. Passing all classes was mandatory.

The medal is pointing to the ear. Which is above the clue for sounds like. The second ear is scratched out, b/c it ended up being boxed into the clue, not outside it (I apologize for that, but it was the third draft, and I was getting irritated/ had to get back to work)
