pretty sure all magic is descended from starvald demelain, it acts as the buffer from chaos to the holds. this is also why it seems to be more powerful and wild then any other magic.
azathanai do not have their own hold, they are all undecided.
barghast are descended from imass not beast hold.

I don't think they descend from Imass as it is said in MoI. In FoL we learn that the azathanai Vix is the creator of Thelomen and Trell and plan to make a new race mixed with Thelomen, Trell, and Dog-runner. Imass descen from Dog-runner. If Vix did as planned the Barghast race should actually be older or old as the Imass race.

the imass are definitely way way older. the imass have their own hold, both the imass and the barghast resemble each other, and nothing about the barghast suggests that they are from the beast hold.
