The Steam Winter Sale begins tomorrow. Did you remember to hide yo wallet and hide yo paypal account?
If you didn't what are you looking forward to this year? Do you have any big purchases planned or elusive purchases you've been waiting for a discount?
I usually restrict my purchases to games below either 5 or 10 euros, depending upon their size and quality.
Of the games I am looking out for is
Asemblance
Banner Saga 2
Axiom Verge
Abzu
Virginia
Hyper Light Drifter
Clustertruck
The Flame in the Flood
Headlander
Slime Rancher
Plus a bunch of other trash I've had in my Wishlist for ages.

I'll wait and see what games from my wishlist pop up. As a general rule for AAA, I wait till they're 75% off, unless I can find them DRM-free
I will almost certainly pick up the Chinese expansion DLC for Age of Mythology EE.
I'm hoping to grab Far Cry 4 and Arkham Knight.
There' There's a bunch of other miscellaneous titles, but I can wait till next year on those. Unless there's a really good bundle deal on Total Warhammer.
I think for both Dishonored 2 and Mankind Divided I'll wait for the GOTY package.

I'm picking up Oblivion and Morrowind if they dip down below $7.50 each, haven't played either and I've been on a Bethesda roll lately.

Personally, I'm looking out for Mankind Divided, Civ VI, Tyranny and Stellaris. If there's a discounted pre-order for South Park: The Fractured but Whole, I'll pick that up as well.
Otherwise I'll just have a look each day and see if anything catches my fancy.

After the new return policy was implemented on Steam, usually everything that is going to have a discount has the same discount from day one till the end. The days of the flash sales and daily deals are over.
Although I've noticed that some companies only have their games discounted for a certain number of days, so that they might not be discounted on day one but on day three or four they suddenly drop in price.

Not particularly impressed by the sale tbh
Far Cry 4 and Arkham Knight are 20 bucks each. For games that'll go waaay down my to play list (especially given I seem to be relapsing hard on AoK HD atm) neither's a good deal.
GOG sale is pretty crap too, tbh. There's good deals, but those are all on games I already own. Of the new stuff, there's the new Shadow Warrior + then Divinity Original Sin, but I'm waaay behind in both franchises, so not really interested atm. The rest are mostly adventure games, which isn't exactly my cup of tea. Cossacks 3 I am interested in, but even that can wait, unless I'll be feeling patriotic and buy @ full price to support the devs.
Best deals so far are actually on Origin. Command & Conquer franchise is 5 bucks- from 1 to 4, all inclusive along with all the Red alerts, and Generals (and all expansions- so 17 games/expansions total). Also, new Mirror's edge and Inquisition GOTY are $15 each. I think I might actually grab Mirror's edge and C&C for a 20 and call it a sale. Oh, and I got Dungeon keeper for free b/c EA's giving it away right now.

I agree, I am not seeing big discounts on the games I was looking most forward to. Then again, there's a bunch of games on my wishlist that aren't on sale right now so I am hoping they get a discount over the weekend.
I have bought a bunch of stuff though:
Asemblance
The Room Two
OmniBus: Game of the Year Edition
Evoland 2
Jotun: Valhalla Edition
REDCON
Boulder Dash 30th Anniversary
Boulder Dash Classic Remix World
Boulder Dash The Bouldering Comp World
Risen 3 - Complete Edition
Shadowrun: Hong Kong - Extended Edition
Will probably pull the trigger on a few more but they are just a few euros more than I want to pay currently.

I'm also kinda tempted to not buy anything, and spend $300 on a 1060 instead. It feel like it might be a more worthwhile investment this month.

I have yet to pull the trigger on Arkham Knight and Mankind Divided, as like Ment I'm super wrapped up in an old game (CKII + mods for me). If they don't drop I might still get them, but we'll see.

Applied Discount code, so 16 bucks for the game + the Season's pass (Steam has it as deal for 23). Both sitting in my library as I'm typing this, probably gonna start downloading soon.

I hadn't even realised there was a sale on until seeing this thread.
Checking it out the only thing I'd jump on is Fallout 4 (I'm currently playing through New Vegas again) at £13.19 however that isn't including all the DLC which for any game with DLC for me to buy it, it must come with it all included as I'm not spending extra on top of game purchase price. Season Pass is £23.99. That's nearly twice the price of the game. Maybe next year.
My days of paying anything near top rate for a game are well passed, I have the patience and the lack of time in which to play a game that putting it back a year or two doesn't mean much to me when compared to spending £30 more just to play it today.
Now Fallout 3 GOTY for £7.49? That I'll bite. NV has been my only venture into Fallout so far, time to correct that. After my current replay. That I need to pick a point, save, complete one ending then reload and mop up the final ending, so maybe a month away.
Edit: Mass Effect 1&2 for £5.74? Why yes I'll take that too. Now I have 3 big games to play dammit!

Not this sale, but I bought a new external harddrive, and found that if I bought Titanfall 2 I got free shipping and saved money. So now I'll have Titanfall 2. I haven't played a shooter in... since Gears of War 2 maybe?

When you say you haven't played a shooter are you saying you haven't touched and FPS or Third Person Shooter in all that time? No Farcry or Uncharted or Tomb Raider or Doom or Wolfenstein or anything like that? Man, you've been missing out.

Wait, no, you're right. I did play a little farcry 3 and Wolfenstein. I had forgotten. I guess I just tend to lose interest rather quick.

As a person who's put hundreds of hours into both Farcry 3 and 4, I cannot imagine losing interest in those games. Farcry 4 might be a candidate for my favorite game ever. But then again I also really like shooting things in games.
You should pick up Doom if you're looking for new shooters. Doom is like Titanfall in that it's fast and agile but it's also a brilliant mix of 90s nostalgia and modern brutality.
Shit I should re-download Doom and play it again over Christmas.

I loved Far Cry 3, but 4 was a bit 'meh' for me. Same old shit, less interesting location and villain. I'm kinda hoping they go back to Far Cry 2's setting and do it right this time.

Far Cry 4 was in some ways not as well laid out as 3 (I mean, Vaas was a fantastic villain from the outset - but the actual villain was disappointing as hell, right?), but to me 4 was actually a masterpiece.
The simple things, like the ambiguity of Pagan Min and his regime, versus the Golden Path. The questions about your family and their true natures. The extremely cathartic ending, and the brilliant, totally in character alternative ending at the start of the game. The setting also really made use of the mobility options, and I personally got way more invested in Kyrat, even just from an aesthetic perspective, than the islands of 3.
That being said, it took me two tries to get into the game. I put it down after a brief session, for several months. But when I picked it back up I got hooked and didn't stop playing for a long, long time. It was probably my GotY, honestly.
However, I do wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment on a remake of 2. A proper iteration of that with the mechanics done better, and less omniscient AI? Throw a great villain in there and I'm sold, no question.

Indeed. My main gripe with FC3.

The thing that perhaps drew me in the most was FC3's main character arc. The idea of being this rich-kid tourist who gets stranded and actually has to deal with the trauma of his struggle to survive (well, in the first half anyway) felt quite real and unique to me. I didn't quite get that same sense of investment in FC4's story (wasn't that blown away by the revelations at the end), and the stark binary choices for the Golden Path felt a little forced. The complexity of the choices was interesting though, and I will admit, Kyrat felt a lot more realistic as a place than the islands of FC3.
That's not to say I hated FC4, it just wasn't something I went away from saying 'wow' like with FC3. That is perhaps because it was a hard act to follow, and FC3 felt like a breath of fresh air from a story/gameplay standpoint (disregarding that whole shit with the 'dragon knife' and Citra falling in love with you).
