...as in, I'm curious to find out whether Willful Child is actually a Pratchet-esque comedy farce or if it is a serious science fiction world with comedic elements.

I have not read it yet. I think if it is really side-splitting stuff I would be more prone to pick it up.

Anything like Tehol and Bugg?
Or Pores and Kindly?
Or Pust and Kruppe?
Or 3 of the 4 Wayans brothers?

Funny like Helian funny?
Something altogether different?

It's in the vein of like Naked Gun/Airplane, and mostly parodies Star Trek's formula. It's not as funny as, say, a good Zapp Brannigan episode of Futurama, but it's a lot more funny than, say, Howard the Duck.

As someone who ran a bar night Futurama Trivia in Toronto for two years, and has a complete DVD set Bender head signed by the entire voice acting cast + David X Cohen and Matt Groening, you chose a very good analogy of comparison. Thank you.

Couple of things wrong with this.

A. I know you don't need to work out due to the various souls you have absorbed over the years. They keep you young and fit.

B. Who reads a book in the gym while doing a bench press!
How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.

A. Souls are actually very high in carbs.
B. It's earbook and usually I switch to tunes but I was so taken with it on the walk over that I let it run. Mistake. Nearly fatal.

Worry, that is a very, very low bar if you are talking movie. Comics? No idea.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

All I'm saying is it falls somewhere between the funniest sci-fi stuff ever and the least funny sci-fi stuff ever. An honest answer!

It's hysterical. Genuinely laugh-out-loud funny. Pokes at Trek and a pile of other stuff. Utterly worth your dollars, esp the earbook.
