Ninja Assassin with that guy Rain was pretty awesome. Totally over the top, yet a decent story line.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Warrior's Way was entertaining. Along those line give Sukiyaki Western Django a try; more of a samurai western than kungfu movie. Also speaking of Samurai movie 13 Assassins is a must see!

Tons of good movies - Yuen Wo Ping is the man for extended fight sequences, he directed Iron Monkey & the Netflix sequel to Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Another classic of his was with Jet Li - Fist of Legend. That movie and Donnie Yen's Legend of the Fist are both remakes of Bruce Lee's first movie The Big Boss A.K.A. The Chinese Connection.

The High Fantasy Wuxia has been on an upswing lately what with the recent Monkey King movies and a few popular recent releases like Jet Li's League of Gods which sounds like China's Avengers. The other big movie coming out of China this year is Time Raiders.
It Stars K-pop star Lu Han and Jack Tu (Jackie Chan’s disciple and son of Iron Crotch Master Grandmaster Tu) it's China’s spin on Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and from what I hear shares a CGI tentacled demoness with League of Gods. Reason enough to keep an eye out for either.

Sukiyaki is also a Takashi Miike movie, so you know the pedigree out of the gate. I saw it at TIFF the year it debuted, and Miike was actually there, so that was cool to see him introduce his own movie. I feel it's only tainted by Tarantino's cameo he shoved in.

And if we can recco Samurai flicks, I will freely second 13 ASSASSINS (also by Miike) which is incredible from start to finish. While not quite as clever or perhaps thought-provoking as a Kurosawa samurai flick...Miike does the rest of it with a deft hand.

Also, the movies stand in juxtaposition with one another, as DJANGO is more of an action comedy....while 13 ASSASSINS is completely serious.

Both great....but I prefer 13 more.

I just watched Sammo Hung's latest movie on Netflix - The Bodyguard. It's good, a bit quirky but when it picks up there's some crazy moves going on!.


BTW . . . anyone interested in winning Donnie Yen's The Lost Bladesman on DVD?
