South Korea were not good, Germany were just terrible.

Huh. Right now it looks like Senegal and Japan will come down to the amount of yellow cards, since their record, goal diff, goals scored and head to head are identical.

Edit: and it looks like Japan is through based on fair play. Wow.

Yep, Senegal got more cards. Fair play.

Winning and continuing the momentum into the knock out stage is a valid argument, but it looks like England's loss to Belgium gives them an easier path.

Nooooo, my dear Sweden is England's path!

Columbia an easier path?
I wouldn't say so, Brazil have flattered to deceive so far and Colombia, when they turned it on, looked terrific going forward

Colombia most likely miss their main player though, James Rodriguez.

Yeah he is a talisman. It's a shame to see him go off injured. However it might be the key difference, because our version (Kane) is still in. Yes Columbia have some other excellent, noteworthy players (Falcao, Cuadrado for starts) but James is the standout world class glue that binds them together.

I'm not being over optimistic but there's no reason we can't beat them.

England - Brazil or England - France for the final. No sweat. And let's hope it is Brazil because statistically speaking, World cups on European soil have always been won by European teams.

Russia being classed as Europe is always a stretch in my eyes.

More of it is in Asia than not

Practically all of the playing cities are in the European section though. Moscow (Spartak and Luzhniki), Kazan, Sochi, Kaliningrad, Nizhny Novgorod, Rosotv, Saint Petersburg, Samara, Saransk and Volvograd are all west of the Ural Mountains, so on the European side. Only Yekaterinburg is east of the Urals and then only very marginally. So even though more of the land mass is in the Asian bit, most of the football definitely isn't. I think nearly 80% of the population is west of the Urals as well.

Well, since the U.S.A. didn't qualify, I'm rooting for Sweden (got roots from there). Mexico (gotta throw love and support to our friends to the south), and England.

Sweden and Mexico are in the same group as Germany (along with South Korea), so that's a bummer.

As far as predictions? Probably comes down to your power houses - Germany, Brazil, Argentina.

Keep an eye on Russia though. As hosts, they probably have some shenanigans planned to see them advance.

Any of you guys want my mojo to rub off on you? Come close and take in my winning essence.

I bet none of you saw both Sweden and Mexico (in the same group as Germany) both advancing. Posted Image

Neither did you though, as you clearly state in the rest of your post: "Sweden and Mexico are in the same group as Germany, so that is a bummer. Probably comes down to your power houses: Germany, Brazil, Argentina."

You basically said one of them wouldn't get through because Germany were favourites :D

I said I was rooting for Sweden, Mexico and England. Being a realist, I thought more than likely Germany would advance. However, my "rooting" for the teams was enough to get them through. So, what I am getting at is, if there is a team you'd like to see get to the final, let me know and I'll add them to my "root for list". Just maybe it might be enough. I have magical winning skills, that helps teams win and stuff.

I did root for Iceland. But their powerful ice magic froze out my penetrating act of selfless and supportive love. There's two aspects to my winning magic. I offer it, but you have to be accepting of it. Maybe next time though.

On the serious tip though. Next World Cup, I'm gonna have to root for South Korea, because they played an integral role in getting Mexico out of that group.

That second goal by France was quite the strike. Just sublime.

[EDIT] A 4th goal by France now (France 4 / Argentina 2). Looks like France is going to stay at the dance, and Argentina goes home after only one slow dance with the homely wallflower that was shyly smiling at them the whole time. Journey's "Open Arms" was playing, and they can still smell her acrid perfume on their lapel as their mom drives them home. Feeling ashamed and dejected.https://www.youtube....h?v=i5pUOVC50Y8

Argentine out, looks like Portugal will be too. Maybe Harry Kane will get the golden boot?
