Actually I am an insane fan. Nothing that I stated is a misstatement. Think of it like this. To the average citizen of the empire Vader was fighting the rebels/terrorist who were doing things like blowing up buidings attacking munitions in the middle of cities and generally causing meham. Vader was the empires face against that chaos. He was the right hand of the emperor. To a nonrebel Vader was someone who brought about the end of the wars and ushered in an area of prosperity. To the rebels he was a horrible person who destroyed worlds. Of course the rebels also destroyed the death star and thus killed 100's of thousands of souls themselves.

Vader had been the savior of the force he was the Jedi knight Anakin skywalker. Who recognized the corruption that had infiltrated the Jedi order, causing the Jedi to lead the republic into unending war. Anakin was forced to became Darth Vader in order to purge the Jedi and create the empire. He did this because he was against war and to save lives. The man was a visionary who is simply misunderstood. The rebels propaganda machine would lead you to believe that Lord Vader was a Monster. This is a false narrative peddled by the craven assassin Luke Skywalker (no relation to Anakin). Lord Vader wore a black outfit for the poor and the beaten down for the hungry and enslaved. He had been violently burned over his entire body during his purge of the corrupt Jedi knights and was forced to wear a complete environment over his body. He came from the slaves of the republic and knew what a horrible institution it had previously been.
