One minute in, and already, this is what a vigilante should be

Four eps into THE DEFENDERS.

I started this because I wanted to at least have a look before the Marvel Netflix split hits Canada, and accepted that my plan to work thru the various other series' was just not happening...t he various Marvel Netflix stuff has failed to hook me... DD S1 meh i ended up skipping half the eps and ff'ing chunks of the ones i watched, have started JJ S1 and CAGE a few times and just lost interest... couldn't bother with Iron Fist...

But this is actually a lot of fun. Each character's plotline moves along, they came together effectively, the action is well done for the most part, Sigourney Weaver chews scenery but does it subtle. She should play evil more often.

Just finished, enjoyed, was totally satisfied.

The characters and interplay worked for the most part, the annoying bits were brief, the action pretty great.

The baddies' overall plot was pretty basic 'We will get the black stuff and remain, immortal! And destroy New York! Mwahahahahaha!' but since this is based on comics, hey, good enough.

I liked how the first time the Defenders faced off against the Hand leaders, they subverted all kinds of the usual tropes... Jess and Luke double-team old lady Gao, Matt throwing down against both martial artists, Danny fights Electra.

I liked that Claire and Misty and Colleen actually had solid B-plots.

I liked that Stick died. It at least showed the supporting cast were on the block even if the main four were never.

Electra taking out Alexandra was a lovely twist. Overall Electra was pretty great right thru. I didn't quite buy her and Matt's reunion or whatever that was at the end, but it wasn't utterly silly.


I know it was budget driven, but at least three times Jess could have taken flight and pretty much solved whatever the problem was. Weak writing there but it was the exception for the most part.


Iron Fist was annoying, albeit not as annoying as i was expecting. I liked his interaction with Luke, but i'm an old school Power Man & Iron Fist comic fan, so for me those bits were fun nostagia fuel. The Iron Fist effect was incredibly lame.


Of the supporting cast, Misty's scenes were unnecessarily repetitious. They could have done a little more with her and a little less with Colleen's angst. Still too bad we'll never get that Daughters of the Dragon series. Foggy and Karen were Foggy and Karen, utterly one note, her more than him.... yes Matt is DD again and they has a sad... we get it, please move the fuck on.

Would have watched a second season.

Yes, it's all lies. I hated it, smeared defecate on the tv screen and sent hatemail to netflix, marvel, the actors, the actors guild, stan lee's estate, and the catering service that fed people while they produced this steaming pile of episodic malfeasance.

How dare they, i ask you... HOW DARE THEY?




Also, what? ... it wasn't awful, i was entertained. More than i can say for every other Marvel tv property (except possibly RUNAWAYS s1).
