I always saw the Azath like the great equalizer in the series, acting in essence as a natural judge of powers. Walk into it's yard and face judgement! Not sure if there's a literal connection in the book between the Orb card and the Azath, but have no idea what else the Orb card could represent other than Rake/Shadowthrone or Raest, who I think all are affiliated with other cards.. What do you think the Orb meant in the reading?
I figured the nature of the Azath was a good place to start as a symbolic visual aspect of the card, help keep the graphics related to the Malazan universe. Looking at it now, I agree that the orb/eye should be enlarged, the nose and mouth are distracting to the impact of that scrutinizing orb.
for now here are some sketch options for Oponn I started playing with. Feedback and references/insights are always appreciated!
