I'll be posting a few of these in the lead up to a big Malazan picture reveal I done earlier this year, yeah I know it's a bit of a tease but I can't go chucking it all up right now, folk would lose interest.
these were a couple of concepts for Dassem to gauge at what era, Dirk Scarlett would like the 1st sword depicted in his image. keep an eye out for more on this.
Great to be back, hope you guys are all good, I look forward to catching up

Welcome back man!
and off to a good start
This all sounds like a a great Portfolio maker, character studies etc then final picture. Art directors keep telling me this is what they love to see. Did you do any Scene studies beforehand?

Hey Hocknose, thanks a lot, Dirk is the guy who commissioned the art, It's not his real name though

Hey Thanks Dolmen, good to be back.
Cheers, there's a bunch more to come as well.
Aye, it's something I started doing when I started my game design course a couple of years ago, It's handy as hell because you get some cool portfolio stuff like you said, some concepting experience (every little bit help) and the person on the other end gets to have a good idea of what they're getting as well as a bunch of extra pictures, especially for a big picture that you want to get spot on like this one.
Yeah I done a couple of scene studies, it's always best to get the composition down otherwise no matter how well rendered or detailed the picture is it'll look a bit off, I'll chuck them up as well.

Great character study! Love the subtle differences.
Cheers, whisperz, I had no idea the older one would end up looking so much like Cullen Bohannon though.

He said he doesn't mind me using it for promotional purposes as long as absolutely nothing Financial happens with it, So I'm not sure to be honest, I mean I don't want to over saturate it on the net otherwise it can be taken and used on whatever, that's why I'm sticking to posting here and on my devart site, that saidif you're looking for something along these lines for the Malazan wiki maybe this will interest you...........

These were a couple of concepts for Lady Evny, this is where I came to the realization that I had no idea what a 'telaba' was, we decided (me and Dirk) to head down an Egyptian route as that would look quite appropriate.
keep an eye out for more on this.
Also I should mention....Dawn of war 3....that is all.

Love that. 2B most lines up with my thinkymeatz image, tho A has a hair colour closer to Fid's iirc is reddish. C looks too old.
4 is neat... Conveys a heaviness to the scene but still looks like he doesn't quite know how to play the instrument.

4 is incredible! I'd love a more complete version of that in that sketch-like style. I would probably buy a print.

Cheers Abyss, C is where his hair turns pure white in Toll the Hounds (I think) so he's still pretty young but he's definitely got that Zeus vibe. With 4 it was a scene, I cant remember where from when Fidd plays a heart breaking dirge in a rundown tavern I always wanted to make it into a full blown picture but time is ever elusive, this'll have to do for a bit.

It is indeed, I had to gauge at what point of the books Dirk wanted fidd visualised for the final image as with most people he went for the middle, that said he ended up looking quite different, that's pictures for you though, where needs must.

Oof, I've always wanted to draw it full scale, if I ever get around to it I'll be sure to get it posted here.
