Thank you Abyss and Nevyn,

I am reading the book AND TOR re-reads concurrently. When I finish a chapter, I read TOR in order to clarify the chapter. These questions are mostly from the re-reads and thus I do not have the whole paragprahs as I take my notes. Besides, I know the answers to some questions but I want to be sure so I ask them anyway.

As four your answers;

3) L'oric summoned QoD but what does he get from this deal?
7) You cut my sentence short :) But as I said before, I am double reading the book. I will also read the book a third time when it is published in my country.
8) Yes I remember him being the future First Sword and I hated the spoiler but idk why :)

Regards

Loric got nothing he was clearing his obligation to the Whirlwind rebellion.

Thank you Nevyn,

I have some other questions :nuke:

1) What is Balm's confusion? Is it something that happens to soldiers about to war?
2) Nether tells just after the fires in Y'ghatan that a fire elemental is about to be born. What exactly is a fire elemental? RAFO?
3) I couldn't understand the deal among Queen of Dreams, Leoman, and L'oric? I think this is also RAFO but what I am curios is the deal between L'oric and Queen of Dreams.
4) What was the honey (God Bringer iirc) they eat and used for their burns?
5) "Seven hundred and ninety-one. Out of three thousand." Is this remaining soldiers or the dead?
6) Grub tells Keneb that something's buried. Is it the buried soldiers or something else?
7) Who did Pearl lose? I think it's not Lostara since she was pulled away and if the one pulled her was Pearl, he would know that she was alive (is she?). So it is either Pearl thinks Lostara is dead or Lostara is saved by someone else. And if she was, who might that be? Maybe Cotillion?
8) What is Grub's special force? How come he knows a lot when others fail?
9) Treach was slain by two K'Chain. I believe he was not a god nor an ascendant by the time but a soletaken so he was not so much powerful while fighting the two K'Chain, is this right?

Regards

1. Not sure what you mean. Where? It probably said.
2. Basically says. "Fire elemental" would be a spirit of fire. Like a sort of fire godling. Spirituality and deities in Malazan often follow the somewhat animist form of being all of a sort of kind (ascendants/spirits/gods), but different in scale. Like Mael is the god of the seas, but there might, in some area, be a spirit of this one river in particular.
3. A complex deal that gives the QoD leverage with certain mortals.
4. A powerful hallucinogen. Also good for burns.
5. Reread. Should say.
6. Soldiers.
7. Lostara. Lose isn't always literal.
8. Because.
9. He was a powerful First Hero and soletaken. Also K'Chain are pretty damn scary, and some of them can be near ascendant level themselves in ability to lay the smack down on someone.

Hi all,

One more to add the list :p

10) Has Paran really ascended? How and when?

Regards

10. It was a long process, but yes. He's Master of the Deck of Dragons. And talks to gods as peers.
Laseen did nothing wrong.

I demand Telorast & Curdle plushies.

Thank you Kanese.

I have some might_be_silly questions :p

1. So Pust is Magi of the High House Shadow. I presume this grants him powers stronger than being a High Mage, right? Is there any other significance of being the Magi of the High House Shadow?
2. I kinda like how the old power-players of the past (Dejim, the D'ivers God in MT which was killed by Iron Bars and etc.) are overwhelmed after coming back to life after thousands of years :p What about you? I think some things change in an unexpected way for them.
3. Is Paran kin to the Hounds of Shadow or Darkness?
4. Are the Hounds of Darkness basically D'ivers? Is there any relation between them and Dessimbelackis?
5. The two Hounds of Darkness were freed by Onrack (or Trull) iirc. But Paran had to go some scary place to free the remaining five. Are the places the same?
6. How were the Hounds of Shadow created/cast?

As for the Hounds history, my memory is like: There are 7 HoS and Rake killed two of them. Paran saved those two from Dragnipur and they went back home to Darkness. I believe those two were the freed ones. Is this correct? So, if the HoS are killed, do they go back to the statues? I might sound complicated and hope I am not :nuke:

Could you maybe wait until you finish before posting questions?

It is tricky enough to remember what is revealed in what book, and tell what is a RAFO and what you just missed or misread. But it is even harder when you are mid-book remembering what is said in what chapter. Be patient, answers will come, or at the very least, a better understanding of what is going on.

For #1, Magi of High House Shadow is a position/card in the deck of dragons. Think of it more as making a character more relevant/important rather than more powerful.
Tatts early in SH game: Hmm, so if I'm liberal I should have voted Nein to make sure I'm president? I'm not that selfish

Tatts later in SAME game: I'm going to be a corrupt official. I have turned from my liberal ways, and now will vote against the pesky liberals. Viva la Fascism.
When Venge's turn comes, he will get a yes from Mess, Dolmen, Nevyn and Venge but a no from the 3 fascists and me. **** with my Government, and i'll **** with yours

Like Nevyn said, it is rather hard answering a lot of your questions if you haven't actually finished reading the book. It would be more constructive to save up the questions until the end of each book, as a lot of the things that you ask will already be answered by the time you get to the end. The TOR reread won't soplve this as it will have the same issues; they are not going to give spoilers to later chapters in the same book.

3) What do you mean by kin? He's a human, they are Hounds. There is no family relationship. But he has some sort of link to the Hounds of Shadow due to being in contact with the blood of one of the Hounds. So he somehow obtained some powers from it and the Hounds sense something familiar about him now.
4) RAFO.
5) Yes
6) RAFO (probably)

Regarding the Hound history, it's rather hazy. The two HoS that escaped Dragnipur did indeed somehow cause the two Deragoth statues to become alive. But all 7 statues are now destroyed, so clearly the remaining HoS cannot 'return' to those. The relationship between them is likely a lot more complicated and part RAFO.

Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

Hi Gorefest,

I realized that, as you and Nevyn mentioned, some of my questions are answered in the forthcoming chapters. I once or twice wrote that RAFO is a very good answer to me because what I am curios is not the answer to the questions I ask but the fear of missing the answer itself in the chapters. I believe it is best to take notes and continue reading the book and ask my unanswered questions later :nuke:

Hi All,

I just finished the book. Now, should I read Reaper's Gale or Return of the Crimson Guard?

Reaper's Gale first, then Return of the Crimson Guard, then Toll the Hounds.

Hi All,

Some points troubling me. Can you help?

1) How did Withal escape CG (did he? maybe he was freed or CG let them leave)?
2) What started Icarium's rage?
3) Trull was having hard time against two Edur and then he stood against Icarium (who killed lots of Edur all by himself) where even QB failed. Were those two Edur so strong?
4) When Icarium is in rage, do the blows he receive make him stronger like a berserker?

1. At the end of MT Mael turned up with a boat for Withal
2. Which one?
3. Forgetting.
4. If he is really into it, I don't think he notices much

Thank you Andorion,

1) So all he needed was a means of transportation. Did CG just let him go or couldn't do anything since Mael was there for him?
2) The last one against Trull in TBH

Well the boat was brought for him by the Elder God of the Sea in answer to his fervent prayers, so it was not just a simple boat, plus Mael then proceeded to beat up the CG so I don't think the CG could have done much at that point

2. Hang on, forgetting this....I think there was some magic wafting around

I love how Withal prays and prays and prays, and then instead of some typically vague "sign" or subtle assistance, the fucking Elder God of the Sea himself straight up just rolls up with a boat and basically is all "here you go."
Laseen did nothing wrong.
