I thought the Errant showing up was a bit strange. Seems like a retcon or forgetfulness on the authors part

As far as I recall in MT and RG it was suggested that at this time he was secluded to Lether and didn't have any influence or knowledge about the outside world.

But then again, in Midnight Tides we thought he was an ascended human from the First Empire which was way off the mark

It felt like he was definitely not there but seeking to give a little nudge from afar. The fact that K'rul implies that Mael/Bugg was already on the case I find interesting as well.

Doesn't seem like such a stretch that the Errant could exert influence or presence from Leth, albeit on a minor way.
