I don't recommend slow cooking. Asparagus gets mushy and gross when slow cooked. If grilling is not an option, I recommend blanching or steaming and spritz some fresh lemon and maybe brush with melted butter or throw a pat of butter in (and of course salt and pepper). Blanching or steaming will leave them with a fresh 'snappiness' that is desirable. You may want to try working with just a couple to see how they taste to you, adjust as appropriate. But slow cooking? uh, no, just no.

[EDIT] Another great option is to put them on a baking sheet and hit them with the broiler in the oven (with similar seasonings ), and be sure to turn them of course.

I have literally none of those things, but I'll... uh... definitely try something

Seconded. Asparagus is awesome on the grill. I usually put some foil down, cover them in butter, salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder and cayenne pepper and you're good to go.

They will not taste good boiled.

Cut of any white/discolored ends (these are going to be hard).
Put on baking sheet.
Drizzle olive oil.
Salt to taste.
Put in oven until done as you want them.

Fin.

What's the best way to cook asparagus, if I'm someone who doesn't especially like nor particularly dislike asparagus (so far)?

Use green asparagus, not the white variety, for starters. Snap the hard bottom bit off. Put on a baking tray, sprinkle lightly with some olive oil and grill it until it slightly caramelises. Way nicer than boiling them. Same goes for sprouts, btw.

To echo the others, I prefer asparagus grilled in the oven. I put them on a baking sheet, sprinkle with olive oil, salt, pepper, maybe a little lemon and some chili powder. some garlic cloves mixed in. Broil them for a few minutes until they're somewhat golden.

I don't think my oven can grill things. Only the (old, rusty) bbq. And I think I need to wait a few months before that monstrosity will ignite.

All those methods are good, grilling is great. But if you want some with less hassle, sticking them in boiling water for 3-4 mins doesn't ruin them, it'll be fine.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Ok, so I'm going to boil some water, put it in a tray, snap the avocados, put them in the water, put them in the oven, turn the second broiler on for 3 minutes, take them out, dump the water, drizzle them with oil, powder them with some weird star anise spice that mysteriously appeared in my pantry like 2 years ago and I"ve never used, put them back in the oven, "grill" them, and then shake them around in a big bowl for a bit. And then they'll be perfect.

Don't forget to stuff them with lemons and zap them in the microwave for 5 min.

Also, don't freak out and call the doctor when you go pee after eating them. Asparagus makes your pee smell funny. It's normal.

Turns out the "Broil 1" setting on my oven makes asparagus that tastes meh, and the "Broil 2" setting fills the kitchen with ash and smoke.

So, gonna attempt to pull together a corned beef and cabbage dinner Sunday, which will be new to me. I'm a pretty fantastic cook, but thought I'd come to my 'foodie' friends here and collect any advice or ideas or gotchas or 'watch out for' or 'be sure to' or. . . . you get the idea, if you've experience with the dish, sound off.
