When you filter thru virgin chickens it's mostly flavor.

Mostly.

Okay, we need to talk about cilantro. I love cilantro, and the burst of fresh, lively flavor it brings and how it meshes so well with other ingredients in a lot of dishes, but I come from the camp that approaches cilantro carefully and consider it a very sensitive ingredient. In other words, if you take it over just a smidgen too much for my liking, I can't eat the dish. Less is more when it comes to cilantro. That is all, you can return to watching your Hot Pockets spin around in the microwave.

Yup

Yup. If you're not even-handed with its application, it can indeed be the Devil. #Facts #PreachOnBrother #Blessed

Thanksgiving - sides.

Green Bean Casserole. Why, just... why? I mean think about it. Can of mushroom soup. Probably the only recipe you'll ever use it in. That french fried, crunchy onion topping. Again, probably the only recipe you'll ever use it in. And the rest is just typical seasoning, yeah?

So why? It's not good. I grew up on a farm with a multitude of garden vegetables. Green beans were grown every season. Mom used to parboil them and dress them simply with basic salt and pepper and red wine vinegar. Delicious. Needs nothing more. Green bean casserole ruins the anchor with all that garbage.

Whatever concoction you just described sounds disgusting.

We had kedgeree for dinner tonight. It's so wrong but so right.

My mother in law keeps making bubble and squeak. But it's not great. I am going to ask for an egg on top this year.

[Note: We are doing a 4 person total Thanksgiving with nobody having extended contact with anyone in person for 2 weeks prior.]

Anyone going off piste for Christms dinner this year what with covid kind of doing away with tradition. We're having Beef Wellington. The king of main courses.

Erm, yeah. As a big old roughty toughty meat eating rugby playing bloke, I somehow became vegetarian during lockdown. Not sure how it happened but it's a quorn roast with sprouts, parsnips, cauliflower, roasties, stuffing and chilli sprinkles for me.

Kind of late with this, but any New Year's Day traditions? Thanksgiving here is turkey and Christmas is either turkey or ham, so on New Year's Day here we have traditionally gone full spaghetti and meatball dinner, with unctuous all day homemade slow cooked sauce that is started the night before. By the time we are ready to sit down for dinner, it is magnified with so much flavor due to the slow cooking. You can taste the love.

Any traditions from other forumites on New Year's Day?

Hey guys! On the way home I picked up a variety pack of White Claw Hard Seltzer. Flavors like Black Cherry, Watermelon and Ruby Grapefruit. Does doing this make you feel any lesser of me?

I was thinking, do we have a drinking thread? I mean we have one about pooping, maybe we should have one about drinking. Someone should create that thread. *wink-wink-nudge-nudge

Just a question out of curiosity. Do any forum member observe the Lenten period? If so, what do you give up?
