I guess the press release was yesterday, but just saw it today.
Seems pretty exciting and it says a lot about how far fantasy has come that they would humor Rothfuss with such a big ask.
Here is a link to the news story
and here is Rothfuss' blog about it.
I am fairly excited about this. This is one fantasy series that could reasonably adapt pretty well to TV. No idea how they'll manage to split the story between movies and TV, but look forward to finding out.

Tatts early in SH game: Hmm, so if I'm liberal I should have voted Nein to make sure I'm president? I'm not that selfish
Tatts later in SAME game: I'm going to be a corrupt official. I have turned from my liberal ways, and now will vote against the pesky liberals. Viva la Fascism.
When Venge's turn comes, he will get a yes from Mess, Dolmen, Nevyn and Venge but a no from the 3 fascists and me. **** with my Government, and i'll **** with yours

It's cool news, but the distance between "rights purchase and planning" to "movie/TV show being shot" is a WIDE gulf.
The same thing happens to most big book series. We hear news, and then nada. Hopefully this comes to fruition, but I'll believe it when they start shooting it.

It certainly is. As the blog itself explains, this happened because the people who bought the first option on Name of the Wind let it expire.
But the fact that they are willing to talk about such an ambitious deal, and have already assigned people to oversee the project in each medium bodes well that they are fairly serious.
I would guess that they will develop a pilot and if they can get someone to bite on that they will be off to the races.

The funny thing is if they DID make these shows, he truly would be the new GRRM in that he'd be under pressure to do book 3 before the content caught up.

Rothfuss is indeed one verbacious motherfucker. But it is promising that they were that keen on it - although I have serious doubts that Kingkiller is worth adapting, even in the expanded version, because so much of what makes it good is in the prose itself, and much of the rest is in the fitting together of narrative clues like all the stories and legends and similar things that are going to make pacing a screen story really odd. Still, if they greatly expand the world (I can't see how they'd make a multi-media thing out of this with just the books' base) but with his direct input, it could be a very interesting project.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

I think it could adapt ok for TV. But they are going to need to find one smooth voiced Ginger for Kvothe because he may have a lot of narrating to do to keep the first person feel.
PS:
I'll use tags since the joke is an implied spoiler for Name of the Wind

Yeah! This series is crazy deep, you could read it and miss the truly important bits in the background. I have often debated and if they can capture a LOST-like sense of wonder at his quest on Chandrian that's the only way they are going to get it right. If the TV series can capture that to the ultimately movie to see his...

20-30 episode TV series to a Single Movie. That's they only way to do it.
