Do you think the Night's Watch are going to be relevant after this war? Or do you think this is a "last battle" type of thing for the White Walkers.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

I meant 30. That baby's face is creepy. He looks like he should be wearing a business suit.

Never not use an opportunity to age a baby. If they ever need the kid to be a little boy in the future, they'll be glad they take every chance to show an artificial aging process ala Soap Operas.
Meanwhile, I was wondering where his blonde hair came from. Then I realized Gilly's gene pool is SO FUCKED UP the kid could probably be born half mule half red-headed cyclops.

I co-host a Game of Thrones recap chat that I hope no one minds me linking to.
Or, alternately, the first slightly rustier one.

I don't have the book knowledge of half y'all (though I perhaps did back when I read the series), but we have plenty of fun. Topics include Grey Worm & Messandei being an old couple, Shaggydog In Memorium, and the widows of Vaes Dothrak forming a rock band under the leadership of Alice Cooper, er, I mean, the other Khal's widow.

Gah, if it wasn't for spoilers I'd just wait and watch it all in one go. Waiting a week for 10 minutes or less from each character makes for strangely unsatisfying viewing.

Compounded by a scene where even the characters are trying to find ways to kill time. At least that reminded me of reading Dance.

I felt that Tyrion summed it up nicely - 'So, what shall we do while we wait?'

Oh well I guessed that Jon would leave the Wall - he may not be LC any longer but after he's brought the North together and beat Ramsey, he'll be back to face the Walkers regardless of being a NW member. After what he saw at Hardhome, he should be able to convey the threat in time to rouse some defence.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Not a very good episode

Why did young Ned look so frail and have such a huge accent?

Both Meeren and Dany parts were boring and unnecessary. Varys was the exception. Dany's story could have been compacted. She is basically repeating the same lines every episode.

This entire Arya sequence could also have been compacted

KL is interesting, wish Olenna got more lines, how is Qyburn supposed to get little birds in the North? Winterfell isn't a city.

Rickon... could go both ways - Osha tortured and killed, Rickon hostage, or whole thing is a huge plot by the Umbers,

The Wall ... ummm does Jon not feel cold anymore? Also I would have thought Mel would be a bit more happy. Her first legit resurrection

Yes it seems weird to me that with such a build up to the season, with such little time for each character, they waste scene time with repetition - more Arya being beaten with a stick (her face should be mashed by now) and Dany with the same lines to a different person.

It probably makes for better viewing when seen all in one go, rather than the week in between highlighting the lack of progress each episode.

The flashback fight scene was awesome. Best swordfight in the show to date.

I love this new Umber, he's a bad ass.

And how comes Sir Gregor isn't called Robert Strong any more???

He wasn't ever called Robert Strong on the show.

As far as the Arya thing goes, I'm not sure how much more compressed it can possibly be. Three eps in and she's already finished her basic training and stopped being blind.

Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

I didn't even have to click that to know it was gonna be "montage". LOL

It really needed Survivor's Eye Of The Tiger playing in the background.

There is no better song for a montage than the montage song. Stop talking crazy.
Tatts early in SH game: Hmm, so if I'm liberal I should have voted Nein to make sure I'm president? I'm not that selfish

Tatts later in SAME game: I'm going to be a corrupt official. I have turned from my liberal ways, and now will vote against the pesky liberals. Viva la Fascism.
When Venge's turn comes, he will get a yes from Mess, Dolmen, Nevyn and Venge but a no from the 3 fascists and me. **** with my Government, and i'll **** with yours

Every time I read montage I start singing that song!

I thought it was a bit of a boring ep.

Not sure if I have missed it - has there been any hints to the significance of the flash backs? Or hints of where they are going with it in the show?

All my non-book friends have no idea where the flashbacks are heading that's all.

Theories abound about Bran's visions.

I'm just hoping they don't go to a full-on timetravel plot to 'fix' things.

Well, one important aspect is the actual parentage of Jon Snow. Ned Stark claimed Jon was a bastard that he sired on one of his outings during the war against the Targaryens, but really it is totally against Ned's character to cheat on his wife. So from the beginning there has been speculation that Jon Snow is not Ned's son, but actually Ned's sister's, who was supposedly kidnapped by Rhaegar Targaryen and locked up in the Tower of Joy. So through Bran's visions we may find out whether Jon Snow is actually a Targaryen/Stark descendant, which could have massive implications for the overall story (Targaryen blood possibly having links to affinity with dragons, Stark blood possibly having links to whatever lies in the Stark crypts or the Wall or whatever is going on up North).

Other than that, if Bran can see past events, this would have further potential implications, as there are many more historical events (like Bran the Builder and the building of the Wall, the Blackfyre rebellion, etc) that he may be able to view later on in this or next season, perhaps through the weirwood trees or something like that. We even get a hint that Bran might be able to communicate or influence past events, as Ned seemed to hear Bran when he shouted out to his dad. So how far can Bran develop those talents? And has it already affected past events? A bit of a murky possibility, as Abyss already alluded to.

More winks than hints, if you are talking about the flashbacks themselves. The Tower of Joy cut away on a woman's scream, and had Ned asking "where is my sister" to start it off.

Most of the tv show hints have been early or well separated. There was a bunch in season 1 (odd things Ned said, conflicting mothers), there have been frequent references to an affair being out of character for "the honourable Ned Stark". The biggest wink may have been Littlefinger's reaction in Winterfell's tomb when Sansa says her aunt was kidnapped and raped. He has a bit of a knowing 'that's not the story' smirk on his face.

But the show has buried it well. As I said, they are more winks and leading on people who know the theory than anything a tv viewer only is that likely to pick up on.

If I remember it right, there was a nice bit in Dance where Bran sees Ned by the weirwood in Winterfell, sharpening his sword. It's a complete flashback to a scene in GoTs, where Ned is listening to the Old Gods 'speak' - and he's hearing Bran.

I want to know where Littlefinger is. I just don't get the show versions motivation for giving Sansa to Ramsey, after the trouble he went to to rescue her, and how he supposedly cared for cat. Is he Lord of the Eyrie now? After Sansa's escape that whole plotline now seems redundant, and I'm pretty sure book version has a grander scheme than that.

I know some are bummed at the Tower of Joy cutting away, but I think it's a pretty clever way of doing it for people who have no inkling of the theory. Hearing her scream = she must be in danger. Surprise! it's actually childbirth.

Yeah that is more what I was wondering. Whether my friends are just been idiots and missed some obvious hints to what is going down in the tower or whether it has been well hidden and not very obvious.

Either way, everyone that I have asked has no idea where it is leading.

I suspect some of the slump of the last few episodes so far is the lack of Baelish. Even when completely corny, as in the explain power to viewers while ladies trib, he's magnetic and interesting. He's been sidelined for so long at this point.

Next episode, but I think he's not a mainstay. Just a few scenes. Hard to figure out IMDB's incomplete info right now.
