What exactly is symp?
I gues its short for sympathizer, sympathizer with scum.
But why would RI do that? I mean, is that voluntary?

You're right, it's a sympathizer.
As far as game mechanics go, he's a member of scum team, but when he dies, he CFs as a Roleless Innocent, so no one in town knows who he is, or whether or not he's actually a townie.
Only someone with this much power could make this many frittatas without breaking any eggs.

It shud be pointed out that symp knows who the killers are, but the killers don't know who he is. Which adds an interesting twist to the game as a symp will sometime try and "signal" to the killers. Issue with that is in a game where your every move is suspect it can be very hard to pull off. Also the mere presence of a symp means any misstep can be consideared signaling when it is just a mistake
