Now, I LOVE metaphhysics in fantasy settings, and this is one with a really deep sense of it. I've managed to form myself an idea of this, mostly based in what Silverfox says to Paran in Memories of Ice, what Onrack says to Trull in House of Chains (when they face the Deragoth statues), and what the dragons says to Cotillion in The Bonehunters. I obviously take details from everywhere, but theese are enogh, I think, to conclude the following.
Which, by the way, is only the fisrt step in what I call "metaphysics" of the malazan world, written in a pseudo-poetic way.
Also, I'm Argentinian, so that's why theres a spanish version of it too:

Power is chaos
Control is structure, it's order
The meaning bends power, gives structure, gives order
But power lures power
Without structure there's no integrity, only corruption
Pure structure lacks power, lacks life, it's just static integrity
The more bounded a meaning is, therefore, the more integral(the more controlled and thus less risky) the power
All life, therefore, is in part power
All life, therefore, has liberty by default
Liberty isn't the same as power, because power can be controlled; liberty is the effective use of power
That is to say, liberty is a construction a posteriori, it's the effect of controlled power
Without control, therefore, there is no liberty (because pure power cannot be controlled, it's pure chaos)
Order, thus, can be defined as discrimination
Chaos, thus, can corrupt or be counterposed to order, to discrimination
Do not break symbols; they are seals.
